Flavors, traditions, and landscapes of Capitanata at the Slow Park in Foggia
The Capitanata Spring Festival is an inaugural project that brings a long season of events to Foggia in 2026, dedicated to promoting the Capitanata territory—the vast Tavoliere plain that extends from the Gargano to the Daunian Mountains. Conceived by the "Oltre" social cooperative consortium and supported by the Puglia Region and Pugliapromozione, the festival offers a calendar of eight events that accompany the public from the summer solstice until the beginning of autumn.
The heart of the event is the Slow Park in Foggia, located on Viale Manfredi, just a stone's throw from the Intermodal Hub: a green, multi-functional space that becomes an open-air stage for meetings, tastings, and workshops. Here, the theme of food intertwines with landscape, history, and tradition, following a philosophy of slow tourism that celebrates the identity of the Province of Foggia.
The festival unfolds between June and September with monthly events, each built around a specific product or tradition of Capitanata:
Each evening alternates between storytelling, testimonials, workshops, show cooking, and tastings. Discover terrazzana cuisine—featuring dishes like wheat pasta with mushrooms and cheese, fava beans with chicory, and snails—the transhumance routes that once converged on Foggia, fruit and vegetable excellence like the tomato, and local wine production. The festival brings together chefs, producers, and the community in a journey that celebrates the gastronomic and cultural heritage of Capitanata.
More than just a festival, the Capitanata Spring Festival was born as a tool for the tourism and cultural promotion of the Municipality of Foggia and the entire province. Through the involvement of the social cooperatives of the "Oltre" consortium, the event combines the promotion of local products with social and community values, presenting Puglia—and Capitanata in particular—as a destination to be experienced slowly, amidst good food, nature, and tradition.
The inaugural 2026 edition of the Capitanata Spring Festival kicks off on June 21 with the Summer Solstice and the performance "Rito poetico sotto gli ombrelli del solstizio" (at 7:30 PM, by Foyer '97 Teatro). This is followed on June 25 (from 6:00 PM) by an evening dedicated to Terrazzana Cuisine with a show cooking session by restaurateur Nicola Russo, and then events on Puglian Sushi (July 2), Transhumance: paths and flavors (July 16), Tomato Festival (July 23), Traditional Pasta of Capitanata (August 27), Panzerotto Festival (September 10), and Calici di Stelle (September 19). A journey at the Slow Park in Foggia that weaves together gastronomy, culture, and regional promotion.
