About Camminagrestana

Camminagrestana is a unique gourmet walking tour that winds through the organic vegetable gardens of Val di Gresta, Trentino's first organic district. This multi-stage route takes you through woods, meadows, and cultivated fields, offering tastings of dishes prepared with the valley's organic produce, including carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and mountain vegetables. Organized by the local market committee in collaboration with the municipalities of Mori, Isera, and Ronzo-Chienis, it attracts hundreds of walkers to the Brentonico Plateau and Vallagarina every year.

A walk through Trentino's first organic district

Camminagrestana—also known as Bio Cammina Grestana—is a gourmet event held every summer that invites hundreds of walkers to explore Val di Gresta, the small 'valley of vegetable gardens' overlooking the Vallagarina, in the municipality of Ronzo-Chienis (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige). Recognized as Trentino's first organic district, Val di Gresta is renowned for its mid-mountain produce: carrots, potatoes, cabbages, savoy cabbages, and salad greens that thrive in the valley's ideal climate and soil.

This is no ordinary festival; it is a multi-stage gourmet walk where the trail itself becomes a sprawling dining table. Along the route, set amidst forests, meadows, and farmland, you will find various stations managed by local groups and associations, each serving a course prepared with local organic ingredients.

Two formats: daytime and evening

Over the years, Camminagrestana has alternated between two complementary formats. The daytime version offers a longer route of approximately 12 kilometers, starting from the paragliding field in Le Piazze with staggered departures throughout the morning. It is a challenging yet family-friendly itinerary, marked by nine stops that guide walkers from a hearty farm-style breakfast to berry-flavored ice cream.

The evening version—the 'under the stars' Cammina Grestana—shortens the route to about 5 kilometers. It features seven gourmet stops along with artistic and musical entertainment. Starting in the late afternoon from the Forest Camp in Le Piazze, it is recommended to bring a headlamp for the return journey as night falls.

The territory and organization

The event is organized by the Val di Gresta Produce Market Committee in partnership with the municipalities of Mori, Isera, and Ronzo-Chienis, with support from the Rovereto, Vallagarina, and Monte Baldo Tourism Board. Now in its second decade, the event has become a true jewel of the Vallagarina and a fantastic way to showcase the valley's organic agricultural model.

Beyond the culinary delights, Camminagrestana is a way to experience the landscape of Val di Gresta: the panoramic views stretching toward Lake Garda and the surrounding peaks, the trails that touch the Great War sites on Monte Creino, and the charming small villages that dot the plateau.
