The traditional autumn chestnut festival high above Terragnolo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Malga Bisorte Chestnut Festival is one of the most cherished autumn events in the Val di Terragnolo, in the heart of the Vallagarina valley, in the province of Trento and the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Every year, on a Sunday in October, the mountain hut situated at 1,565 meters above sea level comes alive with hikers, families, and mountain enthusiasts who climb up here to celebrate autumn with roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and traditional alpine dishes.
Malga Bisorte stands on the slopes of Mount Pasubio, in a quiet grazing environment far from the daily hustle and bustle. The facility is guarded and kept alive by the Club Malga Bisorte, a group of volunteers who, over the years, have taken care of the maintenance and restoration of the refuge, making it a reference point for those who frequent these mountains. The chestnut festival is one of the highlights of their activities, along with summer openings and the festivals that mark the season.
The festival follows a well-established ritual that repeats year after year:
In recent editions, the chestnut festival has taken place in mid-October: October 15, 2023, and October 13, 2024, confirming the event's autumn vocation.
For the occasion, transit to the hut is permitted for everyone, without the need for a permit, starting from the Geroli hamlet of Terragnolo. Those who prefer can hike up along the paths that cross the pastures and woods of the slope, enjoying the colors of the Trentino autumn. The combination of walking, panoramic views of Mount Pasubio, and genuine flavors makes the day particularly loved by local families.
The Malga Bisorte chestnut festival embodies the spirit of Trentino village festivals: simplicity, hospitality, and a bond with the mountains. It is not an event built for mass tourism, but a tradition born from the passion of volunteers and the affection of the Terragnolo community for their territory. An ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Vallagarina valley far from the most crowded circuits.
The Malga Bisorte Chestnut Festival is expected to return in autumn 2026, following the tradition established in previous years. As of the writing of this entry, the Club Malga Bisorte has not yet announced the official date or program for the 2026 edition.
Based on previous editions, the festival usually takes place on a Sunday in mid-October, with an alpine cuisine lunch starting at 12:00 PM and the distribution of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine in the afternoon. For the occasion, transit to the hut is usually permitted for everyone from the Geroli hamlet. We invite you to check the official channels of the Club Malga Bisorte for confirmation of the date and details.
