The street food festival in the heart of the Nebrodi mountains, in San Piero Patti
In San Piero Patti, a picturesque village in the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, summer has a fixed date: Ca' Food – The Sampietrino Street Food Festival. Born in 2017 from an idea by the Ca'Sud association, the festival has grown with every edition to become one of the most popular food and wine events in the area, drawing thousands of visitors to the historic center (over 12,000 during the record-breaking 2022 edition).
For one night, the historic center is completely pedestrianized, transforming into a grand culinary trail. Streets and squares are lined with food stalls run by local trattorias, bars, pastry shops, and pizzerias, joined by guest gourmet street food chefs. Recent editions have featured around fifteen culinary stations, two spots dedicated to craft beer, and a cellar showcasing local wines.
The common thread is the authentic cuisine of the Nebrodi, featuring local, zero-mile products with a focus on gluten-free and vegetarian options. Specialties include corn on the cob, meat trios, couscous, battered vegetables, arancini alla norma, and pane cunzato.
Ca' Food is not just about eating; it is a cultural and creative gathering. The evening is animated by concerts, roaming street musicians, dancing, show-cooking, workshops, and children's activities. The art installations created by local master float-makers are particularly striking, such as the giant papier-mâché Moorish heads, alongside decorations of colorful umbrellas, dreamcatchers, ribbons, and flowers that adorn the village alleys. It is a festival conceived and built by the Sampietrino community itself, currently organized by the Insieme per la Città association.
For 2026, Ca' Food doubles down: the eighth edition is announced for August 16 and 17, 2026, in the historic center of San Piero Patti (ME). As per tradition, the village streets and squares will host a culinary trail of food stalls run by local businesses and street food operators, featuring zero-mile specialties, gluten-free and vegetarian options, craft beer stations, and a local wine cellar. Accompanying the flavors will be live music, art installations, and workshops for children.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including schedules, musical line-up, and the list of stalls, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event, presumably in August. Based on past editions, expect: a culinary trail through the historic center with evening stall openings (around 7:00 PM), craft beer stations, a local wine cellar, concerts and roaming street musicians, show-cooking, workshops for children, and art installations by local master float-makers.
