Handmade maccheroni with Nebrodi black pork sauce in Sant'Angelo di Brolo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Maccheroni Festival is one of the most anticipated summer gastronomic events in Sant'Angelo di Brolo, a charming village perched among the peaks of the Nebrodi Park in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily. Organized by the Falchi d'Italia volunteer association, the event aims to honor the area's ancient rural traditions and takes place in the scenic Contrada Santa Maria Lo Piano, surrounded by historic churches and the winding alleys that define this corner of the Nebrodi.
The heart of the festival is the handmade maccheroni, prepared according to time-honored recipes by local women and served with a robust Nebrodi black pork sauce, a prized local culinary specialty. Each portion is paired with a glass of local wine, creating a perfect marriage that captures the authenticity of Sicilian country cooking. Alongside the signature dish, stalls offer a variety of regional products, including cured meats, cheeses, artisanal sweets, and local wines.
The evening is more than just a chance to savor local specialties; the Maccheroni Festival is a true community celebration, brought to life by live folk music, traditional dances, and entertainment suitable for all ages. The convivial atmosphere, with its open-air dining and traditional aromas, revives the authentic spirit of village festivals in the Nebrodi.
The event, which was historically held during the festivities for the Santa Marta district, is now also celebrated during the patronal feast of the Municipality of Sant'Angelo di Brolo in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel. The festival serves as a moment to rediscover the rural roots and cultural identity of a village immersed in the nature of the Nebrodi, making it an ideal destination for those seeking an authentic experience of taste, history, and tradition.
The Maccheroni Festival is traditionally held in the heart of summer, at the beginning of August. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Sant'Angelo di Brolo and the organizing association for the updated program.
The festival is held in Contrada Santa Maria Lo Piano, in Sant'Angelo di Brolo (ME), within the Nebrodi Park.
By car: Take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, exit at Brolo, then continue inland toward Sant'Angelo di Brolo. The nearest train station is Brolo, on the Tyrrhenian line; the closest airports are Catania-Fontanarossa or Palermo Falcone-Borsellino.
We recommend comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the village's narrow streets. Summer evenings in the Nebrodi can be cool, so a light jacket is advisable. For updated dates and times for the 2026 edition, please consult the official channels of the Municipality and the Falchi d'Italia association.
