Music in the iconic settings of one of Italy's most beautiful villages
Note di Pietra — Village Music Festival is the musical event animating Montalbano Elicona in the summer of 2026. Perched in the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, in the heart of Sicily, this village is officially recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Promoted by the Municipality of Montalbano Elicona and backed by the Sicilian Region, the festival evolved from the Indiegeno Fest experience, inheriting its musical spirit while embracing a new identity deeply rooted in the territory and its ancient stone heritage.
The project's core is the dialogue between music and the village's iconic landmarks. The festival is spread across three major venues: from the megaliths of the Argimusco, a breathtaking rocky plateau nestled in the Nebrodi nature, to the Castle that dominates the historic center, and finally the central Piazza Maria SS. della Provvidenza. Each space becomes a natural stage, weaving together concerts, storytelling, history, and local memory.
For the 2026 edition, scheduled from August 5th to 25th, the Sicilian Region has confirmed a co-financing grant of 20,000 euros for the third consecutive year to support the village's cultural and tourism development. The program kicks off on August 5th with "The Enchantment of the Argimusco," a tribute to Franco Battiato performed by the Sicilian Lyric Choir among the plateau's megaliths. It continues on August 22nd with "History and Culture at the Castle," an evening blending storytelling and music to uncover the manor's historical roots and legends, and concludes on August 25th with the "Grand Finale in the Square," a major concert designed to celebrate the community and welcome visitors.
The festival presents great music as a collective ritual, lived with a focus on sustainability and a deep connection to the landscape. Blending spirituality, nature, and culture, Note di Pietra aims to enhance the identity of Montalbano Elicona and attract tourists and enthusiasts to the Nebrodi area of the Messina province.
Visiting Note di Pietra is also an opportunity to explore one of Sicily's most fascinating villages: medieval alleys, the Castle of Frederick II of Aragon, the mysterious Argimusco site—often called the "Stonehenge of Sicily"—and a tradition of hospitality that makes the Montalbano summer an increasingly anticipated event.
