A festival celebrating the Moio peach

The Moio Alcantara Peach Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in the Alcantara Valley, in the Province of Messina. Now in its thirty-plus editions, the event was created to showcase one of the area's agricultural excellences: the peach grown in the fertile Piano di Moio, a flat volcanic basin stretching at the foot of Mount Etna and the Nebrodi mountains. The Municipality of Moio Alcantara, in collaboration with the Pro Loco, brings the town center to life for two days, transforming it into a grand celebration of flavors and tradition.

The local peaches

The absolute stars are the local peaches, the result of a traditional cultivation technique: during ripening, the fruits are wrapped in small fabric bags that protect them from insects and direct sunlight, ensuring an intact skin and a particularly sweet and fragrant pulp. This artisanal method, passed down from generation to generation, is one of the secrets behind the quality that has made the Moio peach famous.

What to taste in the square

The heart of the festival is Piazza Piano Mercato, where numerous stalls featuring local products and handicrafts are set up. Here, visitors can sample specialties prepared with local peaches:

• peaches with wine and peaches with lemon, served fresh;
• artisanal peach granitas and ice creams;
• jams and preserves prepared by local families;
• the unmissable peach cake, crafted by local pastry chefs and sliced in public as the highlight of the festival.

Music, dancing, and a popular atmosphere

In addition to the tastings, the evenings are enlivened by live music, dancing, and shows that involve both adults and children. The festival maintains an authentic village-fair atmosphere, where the hospitality of the Moio Alcantara community is an integral part of the experience.
