The organic and sustainable market in the historic center of Egna
The Bio Herbstfest, or Organic Autumn Festival, is the seasonal event that brings the historic center of Egna/Neumarkt to life every September. Located in the Bassa Atesina area of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), it is one of Italy's most beautiful villages. Beneath the famous arcades and along the streets of the medieval core, the event showcases a day dedicated to sustainability, innovation, health, and a sense of community.
The heart of the festival is the large market bringing together around thirty exhibitors: organic farms, artisans, shops, restaurateurs, and local associations. Visitors can meet local producers, discover production processes and methods, and browse through innovative and sustainable projects in the fields of energy, health, natural cosmetics, and wood and textile craftsmanship.
Restaurants, bars, and bistros in the historic center offer creative dishes prepared with organic ingredients for the occasion, while numerous associations enliven the stalls with delicacies and gastronomic specialties. The simple, convivial atmosphere invites you to spend the entire day strolling among the stands and savoring the scents and flavors of the South Tyrolean autumn.
The supporting program accompanies the day with live music from various groups and ensembles, small cultural performances, and insights into the world of taste and sustainability. There are plenty of activities for children, including entertainment, creative corners, and a climbing wall hosted by the South Tyrolean Alpine Club (CAI/AVS), as well as a book market with a craft corner set up at the library.
The Organic Autumn Festival is also the ideal opportunity to discover Egna, its characteristic arcaded historic center, the Museum of Popular Culture, and the welcoming atmosphere of the Bassa Atesina. Organized by Neumarkt Marketing & Entwicklung, the event is free to attend and attracts a large audience from all over South Tyrol every year.
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the historic center of Egna will once again host the Bio Herbstfest. Under the village's medieval arcades, the Bassa Atesina region tells its story through its organic producers, sustainable artisans, restaurateurs, and local associations.
The program includes a large market with around thirty exhibitors, local culinary specialties and wines, show cooking and tastings, as well as live music, children's entertainment, and cultural moments. Admission to the event is free.
Egna/Neumarkt is located along the Adige Valley, about 20 km south of Bolzano. By train, the reference station is Egna-Ora, on the Brenner line; by car, take the Egna/Ora exit on the A22 Brenner motorway.
The festival takes place on a single Saturday, roughly from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM/4:00 PM. Admission is free.
