About Wild- & Waldwochen

Every autumn, the Val d'Ega (Eggental) in the South Tyrolean Dolomites celebrates the flavours of the season with the Eggentaler Wild- & Waldwochen. Restaurants and mountain huts across the valley, from Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen to Nova Levante and Carezza, offer special menus featuring game, mushrooms, berries, aromatic herbs, and forest fruits. A programme of guided hikes, mushroom tastings, and nature walks completes the experience amidst the vibrant foliage and the peaks of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Val d'Ega autumn gourmet weeks

The Eggentaler Wild- & Waldwochen (the "Game and Forest Weeks" of Val d'Ega) are an autumn food and wine event held in the Eggental/Val d'Ega, a Dolomite valley in South Tyrol with its heart in the municipality of Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen. For about two weeks, between late September and early October, the valley's restaurants, pizzerias, and mountain huts transform the seasonal bounty of the meadows and forests into refined, authentic dishes.

A menu dictated by the season

The stars of the table are the products of the mountain autumn: game, prized mushrooms, berries, forest fruits, aromatic herbs, and ripe fruit. Each participating establishment interprets these ingredients with offerings ranging from traditional cuisine to creative dishes, always focusing on seasonality and local sourcing. Participating venues over the years have included restaurants and pizzerias in Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen and the mountain huts of the Carezza/Karersee area.

Beyond the table: hiking and nature

The gourmet weeks are accompanied by a rich programme of outdoor activities designed to explore the Val d'Ega forest in all its facets:

  • guided hikes through the autumn colours and the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites;
  • walks in search of berries and wild fruits;
  • tastings and insights into the cultivation of prized mushrooms;
  • walks to natural landmarks and panoramic viewpoints in the valley, such as the Corno Bianco/Weißhorn.

A territory to experience

The Val d'Ega brings together the villages of Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen, Nova Levante/Welschnofen, Carezza/Karersee, Ega/Eggen, Monte San Pietro/Petersberg, and Obereggen, set in an alpine landscape that offers the charm of foliage and the crisp, cool light of autumn. The initiative, organised by Eggental Tourismus, highlights the valley's gastronomic diversity and invites residents and visitors alike to rediscover the authentic flavours of the South Tyrolean forest, both at the table and on the trails.

Wild- & Waldwochen — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Eggentaler Wild- & Waldwochen takes place from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in the Val d'Ega. For about two weeks, the valley's restaurants and mountain huts offer autumn menus based on game, mushrooms, berries, and forest fruits, accompanied by a programme of guided hikes and tastings in the Dolomite nature.

The Eggentaler Wild- & Waldwochen 2026 are scheduled from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in the Val d'Ega, with its hub in Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen (Province of Bolzano/Bozen). Participating venues interpret the flavours of autumn with dishes featuring game, mushrooms, berries, and aromatic herbs.

Accompanying the gourmet weeks is a programme of forest activities: guided hikes through the autumn colours, walks to discover berries and wild fruits, tastings and insights into prized mushrooms, and walks to the valley's panoramic viewpoints.
