The festival of blue fish and Mediterranean cuisine in Sciacca
The Azzurro Food Festival is the first Italian event entirely dedicated to blue fish, Mediterranean cultures, and environmental and marine protection. The festival takes place in the historic center of Sciacca, in the province of Agrigento, one of the iconic cities of Sicilian maritime tradition. With the island's second-largest fishing fleet and its title as the world capital of anchovies, Sciacca is the perfect setting to showcase the gastronomic and cultural identity of the Mediterranean.
The festival is organized into several sections that intertwine throughout the evenings. Azzurro Live brings national-level singers, bands, DJ sets, and cabaret shows to the stage; Azzurro Academy hosts masterclasses, cooking shows, and talk shows with chefs, food bloggers, and seafood industry experts; the street food and village areas bring together local producers, fishermen, and restaurateurs. The beating heart of the event is the picturesque Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, overlooking the sea, with the streets of the historic center animated by tastings and initiatives.
Azzurro Food is more than just a food and wine festival: every edition features meetings and debates on environmental sustainability and marine protection, involving the Fisheries District, journalists, chefs, and industry operators. Tastings highlight sardines, anchovies, mackerel, and other blue fish species, paired with typical Sicilian products, from extra virgin olive oil to traditional local pastries.
The event is promoted by Futuris in collaboration with the Municipality of Sciacca, the Pro Loco Sciacca Terme, and under the patronage of the Sicilian Region. It is traditionally held in August, during the height of the Sciacca Summer, in a city located between the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the Selinunte archaeological park, and the Belice Valley, offering visitors a vacation filled with great food, culture, thermal spas, and the sea.
The 13th edition of the Azzurro Food Festival will be held in Sciacca from August 20 to 23, 2026, confirming the summer appointment in the historic center of the Agrigento city. For 2026, the festival will again be divided into its traditional sections: Azzurro Live with concerts and shows, Azzurro Academy with masterclasses, cooking shows, and talk shows, and the areas dedicated to street food and local producers.
The artistic program and guests for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: details on the musical line-up, guest chefs, schedules, and concert tickets will be communicated by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event via the official website and the event's social media channels.
Sciacca can be reached by car via the SS115 (Trapani-Agrigento); the nearest airport is Palermo-Punta Raisi (about 1 hour and 45 minutes away), followed by Trapani-Birgi and Catania-Fontanarossa. The reference railway station is in Castelvetrano or Agrigento, with bus connections to Sciacca.
The hub of the festival is Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, in the historic center of Sciacca, along with the surrounding streets and spaces. It is recommended to park in the areas outside the historic center and reach the squares on foot.
Access to the festival areas is generally free; tastings and some activities may require a fee. For the updated program, schedules, and concert tickets, please consult the official website and the event's Facebook page.
