The summer program of Sciacca featuring concerts, theatre, cinema, and local traditions
The Sciacca Summer Festival is the summer program promoted by the Municipality of Sciacca, a town overlooking the Strait of Sicily in the province of Agrigento. From June to September, this spa and ceramic-making town offers over a hundred events ranging from music to theatre, cinema to literature, and popular traditions to gastronomy, as well as sports and religious events. It is a widespread festival that involves the city's most beautiful squares and enhances its historical and cultural heritage.
Events are distributed across the main city spaces: Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, overlooking the sea, hosts major free concerts; Piazza Gerardo Noceto becomes the theatre for numerous musical evenings in August; the Arena Giardino hosts the open-air film festival; the Lower Atrium of the Town Hall is the venue for theatrical performances, while the Carnival Museum and the picturesque Marina district complete the geography of the events.
The program alternates major events with local cultural initiatives. Among the concerts, names from the Italian music scene stand out, alongside tributes to Sicilian tradition, with evenings dedicated to singer-songwriters and folk music. The film festival The Great Literature of Sicily at the Cinema, held at the Arena Giardino, offers themed screenings, while theatrical shows and meetings with authors take place in the Lower Atrium of the Town Hall.
The identity of Sciacca emerges in the festivals linked to craftsmanship and flavors: the Ceramics Festival celebrates the historic local ceramic art, while IcaroFest, a street artists' festival, enlivens the alleys of the center. On the gastronomic front, the Azzurro Food Festival and the International Street Food return, bringing scents and typical products to the city. There is no shortage of religious celebrations linked to the devotion to Maria Santissima del Soccorso, the patron saint of the city, and initiatives dedicated to 'roots tourism' for Sciacca emigrants around the world.
Designed for audiences of all ages, from children to the elderly, the Sciacca Summer Festival represents an important moment of tourist and cultural promotion for Sciacca and the entire western Sicily. Among the most anticipated events are free concerts of national appeal, seafood festivals, and events that weave together entertainment, faith, and local identity, confirming the city's vocation as a summer destination known for its thermal baths, ceramics, and the sea.
The 2026 program, approved by the Municipal Council of Sciacca, includes over 120 events spread from June to September. The program also celebrates the 400 years of devotion to Maria Santissima del Soccorso, the city's patron saint.
The most anticipated event is the free concert by The Kolors, scheduled for July 27th in Piazza Angelo Scandaliato. In August, Piazza Gerardo Noceto hosts numerous musical evenings, including the tribute IBLA to Rosa Balistreri on August 10th (on the centenary of the singer-songwriter's birth), the concert by Lidia Schillaci on August 15th, and the evening with Pippo Graffeo on August 16th, dedicated to history and folk traditions.
The film festival The Great Literature of Sicily at the Cinema returns to the Arena Giardino, while the Lower Atrium of the Town Hall hosts theatrical performances. Confirmed festivals include: IcaroFest (street artists, third edition), the Ceramics Festival, the Azzurro Food Festival (thirteenth edition), and the International Street Food. There is also space for the Back to Sciacca – The Roots that Unite project, dedicated to roots tourism.
Sciacca can be reached by car via the SS115 along the southern Sicilian coast; the nearest airports are Palermo Falcone-Borsellino and Trapani-Birgi (both about 1 hour and 30 minutes away), as well as Catania-Fontanarossa. The reference railway station is Castelvetrano or Agrigento, which are connected to the city by bus.
Many events, including the major concerts in Piazza Scandaliato, have free admission; some theatrical performances and festivals require a ticket. The detailed program is published on the Municipality of Sciacca's website.
We recommend combining your visit to the events with a walk through the historic center, the thermal baths, and the ceramic workshops. In high season, it is advisable to book accommodation in advance.
