Cinema under the stars on the beach of Lido Rossello, at the foot of the Scala dei Turchi
Cinema Ammare is the open-air film festival that brings summer to life in Realmonte, a small town in the province of Agrigento overlooking one of the most famous stretches of the Sicilian coast. Screenings take place on the beach of Lido Rossello, just a stone's throw from the Scala dei Turchi, at the Nodo Ammare restaurant's beach club, which provides free deckchairs, audio-visual equipment, and a large giant screen facing the sea.
Admission is completely free, subject to availability. The unique feature of the festival is that the program is decided by the public: in the days leading up to each evening, viewers vote via a poll on the Nodo Ammare Instagram stories, choosing from four proposed titles. Screenings take place every Monday night, starting at 9:00 PM, and are accompanied by a large street food area set up directly on the beach.
Conceived and curated by Marco Gallo and Fabio Speranza, the event has won over an increasingly large audience over the years, becoming one of the most anticipated summer appointments in the Agrigento area. The idea is to recapture the atmosphere of the old-fashioned open-air cinemas, but with your feet in the sand and the sound of the sea as a natural soundtrack.
Building on the success of its first editions, Cinema Ammare has broadened its horizons: in addition to Realmonte, the festival now brings its screenings to other iconic Sicilian locations, from Lampedusa to Favignana and San Vito Lo Capo. Furthermore, the evenings are not just about cinema: before the screenings, there is an entertainment segment, while a project dedicated to environmental education draws the public's attention to the protection of Sicilian beaches and the sea.
Watching a film against the backdrop of the Scala dei Turchi, the famous white marl cliff plunging into the Mediterranean, makes Cinema Ammare a one-of-a-kind experience. The festival combines entertainment, the promotion of the Sicily region, and environmental awareness, confirming its status as a jewel in the crown of the summer cultural offerings of the municipality of Realmonte and the entire province of Agrigento.
The fourth edition of Cinema Ammare inaugurates the season on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 9:00 PM, on the beach of Lido Rossello in Realmonte. The opening film chosen for the first evening is "The Notebook". As every year, the festival continues with weekly appointments on Monday nights throughout the summer.
Admission remains free: the Nodo Ammare beach club provides deckchairs, audio-visual equipment, and a giant screen, while a large street food area accompanies the evenings. Films are chosen by the public via a poll on the Nodo Ammare Instagram stories, from four titles proposed each time.
Among this year's novelties, the evenings are enriched with entertainment moments before the screening and an environmental education project dedicated to beach conservation. Furthermore, the festival expands its reach with special stops in Lampedusa, Favignana, and San Vito Lo Capo.
