Chestnuts, new wine, and folk dancing in the Terravecchia of San Nicandro Garganico

The Autumn Flavours Festival is a food and wine event held in October in San Nicandro Garganico, a town in the Province of Foggia, on the Gargano promontory in Apulia. The festival was created to showcase seasonal autumn products and to bring life and visitors back to the alleys of the Terravecchia, the town's characteristic historic centre, with its narrow streets, arches, and stone houses.
The common thread of the festival is the genuine taste of the autumn table. Along the event route, food stalls offer the essential hot roasted chestnuts, accompanied by freshly tapped new wine, along with traditional local sweets and other Gargano specialities. It is an opportunity to rediscover, in a convivial setting, the simple and authentic cuisine of this part of Apulia.
Beyond the food, the Autumn Flavours Festival is above all a community celebration. The evenings feature entertainment designed for children, including animation shows, and continue with music and folk dances of the Gargano area, performed by local folk groups who invite the public to join in the traditional dances. The atmosphere is that of a simple, warm village festival, where families, friends, and visitors gather in the small squares of the historic centre.
San Nicandro Garganico is one of the main towns of northern Gargano, overlooking the coastal lakes of Lesina and Varano. The Terravecchia, where the festival is held, represents its oldest core: strolling through its alleys during the event allows you to combine a culinary discovery with an exploration of the village's historical heritage. The festival is organised by the local Pro Loco with the involvement of local associations.
The event is traditionally held on an evening in October, starting in the late afternoon. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: those wishing to attend can follow the Pro Loco and Municipality channels to find out the day and programme as soon as they are released.
The Autumn Flavours Festival is expected to return in 2026 to the historic centre of San Nicandro Garganico, in the Province of Foggia. At the moment, neither the dates nor the official programme for the 2026 edition have been communicated. Based on previous editions, the festival will offer roasted chestnuts, new wine, sweets, and Gargano specialities, with music and folk dances in the Terravecchia. This page will be updated as soon as the Pro Loco publishes the dates and programme.
San Nicandro Garganico is located on the Gargano, in the Province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached from the Poggio Imperiale exit on the A14 motorway, continuing along the Gargano state roads. The San Nicandro Garganico railway station is served by the Adriatic line. The festival takes place in the Terravecchia, the town's historic centre.
Admission to the event is free; costs apply only to food and drinks at the stalls. Comfortable clothing is recommended for walking through the village alleys, along with a jacket for the cool autumn evenings. The event is suitable for families with children.
