The patronal festival of Vöran: three days of music and tradition at 1,200 meters on the Salten Plateau
In the heart of the South Tyrolean summer, the small village of Vöran, nestled at an altitude of about 1,200 meters on the Salten Plateau above Merano, hosts its most heartfelt event: the Aschler Kirchtag. It is a classic South Tyrolean Kirchtag, a patronal festival that blends religious tradition with popular celebration. It takes its name from the hamlet of Aschl, where the small church dedicated to Saint Anne marks the occasion around which the festivities revolve.
Organized by the Vöran Volunteer Fire Brigade (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Vöran), the Aschler Kirchtag takes place entirely at the Festplatz, the covered festival square, which transforms into a large marquee animated by bands, DJs, toasts, and dancing. It is a festival that involves the whole village: local associations, the brass band, folk groups, and families gather to celebrate their community roots together.
The program alternates between dance evenings with live music and DJs, the typical Sunday Frühschoppen (the morning musical aperitif) accompanied by a guest band, and the grand festive parade (Festumzug) on Sunday afternoon, featuring numerous associations marching to the square. This is followed by a concert by the Musikkapelle Vöran and performances by the Schuhplattler, dancers of the traditional Tyrolean dance. Admission is free.
Vöran is a municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige, reachable by cable car from Burgstall or by bus from the Hafling area. The panorama of the Salten Plateau, amidst meadows and woods, provides the backdrop for one of the most authentic village festivals in the Merano region.
For 2026, the Aschler Kirchtag returns to the Vöran Festplatz from July 25 to 27, with the usual rich calendar of dance evenings, folk music, and community moments. The festival, with free admission, takes place under the covered marquee and is organized by the Vöran Volunteer Fire Brigade (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Vöran).
