A flea market among the orchids

The Trödelmarkt (flea market) in Gargazzone/Gargazon is a recurring event that, every other Sunday, brings the large parking lot of the Raffeiner Orchideenwelt at Reichstraße 26 to life. This is not a polished commercial fair, but a genuine second-hand market where private sellers and enthusiasts set up their stalls: vintage goods, small antiques, books, records, tableware, clothing, toys, tools, and many curiosities to rediscover. It is the perfect place for those who love to browse at their leisure, haggle, and take home a unique find or an unexpected bargain.

The setting: The Orchid World

The location makes this market truly special. The Raffeiner Orchideenwelt is one of the most well-known tropical gardens in South Tyrol: a world with over 10,000 plants and about 500 species of orchids, as well as colorful parrots, butterflies, turtles, and a tropical pond with koi carp. Visitors to the market can combine two different experiences in the same morning: hunting for bargains among the stalls and, if desired, visiting the tropical greenhouse. After browsing the stalls, the Orchidea bistro offers seasonal local dishes, cakes, and homemade desserts—a delicious break to complete your visit.

How it works

The Trödelmarkt takes place on Sundays, generally every two weeks, from late spring until winter, with continuous hours from 09:00 to 18:00. Admission is free and no reservation is required. The Orchideenwelt parking lot offers plenty of space, and its location along the road connecting the Merano area to the Adige Valley makes the market easily accessible.

Gargazzone and the Merano area

Gargazzone/Gargazon is a small bilingual municipality in the province of Bolzano, in Trentino-South Tyrol, located along the Adige River between Bolzano and Merano, in the heart of the Meraner Land. It is an area known for its apples, vineyards, and trails along the irrigation channels (Waalwege): the Trödelmarkt is one of those informal events that make a Sunday in the valley pleasant, amidst second-hand shopping, the open air, and the exotic magic of the orchids.
