Abenddämmerung auf der Hochmuth, which translates to "Twilight on the Hochmuth," is a recurring evening event organized by the Tirolo Tourist Board (Tourismusverein Dorf Tirol), a charming village in the Burgraviato region overlooking Merano, in South Tyrol (Province of Bolzano). The event blends nature, musical tradition, and the magic of the mountains at dusk, set on one of the most scenic balconies in the Merano area.

How the evening unfolds

The meeting point is at the Hochmuth cable car valley station. In just a few minutes, the cable car whisks participants up to the mountain station at approximately 1,400 meters, where a welcome aperitif is served with views over the Merano basin and the Adige Valley.

The highlight of the evening takes place on the terrace of the Gasthof Hochmuth: a concert by the Burggräfler Alphornbläser, the local alphorn players, whose deep, solemn melodies drift through the evening air amidst the peaks of the Tessa Group.

The night descent

After the concert, a hiking guide accompanies participants on the return journey: a descent on foot along the forest path leading back down to the village of Tirolo. The route takes about one hour and forty minutes, covering approximately 5 kilometers with a 680-meter descent, immersed in the woods and the silence of the alpine night.

Useful information

Participation requires mandatory booking with the Tirolo Tourist Board by 5:00 PM on the previous day. Pets are not allowed. As this is an evening mountain descent, appropriate footwear and warm clothing are essential, as temperatures drop rapidly at altitude after sunset.

The alphorn is a traditional instrument of the alpine region, and the Burggräfler Alphornbläser keep this practice alive in the Tirolo and Merano area. Attending one of their concerts at dusk, suspended between the mountains and the Adige Valley, is an authentic way to discover the alpine culture of South Tyrol far from the most crowded tourist circuits.
