The great festival of Prosciutto di San Daniele DOP and the flavours of Friuli
Aria di Friuli Venezia Giulia is the major summer event dedicated to Prosciutto di San Daniele DOP, organised by the Consortium in the historic centre of the town that is the homeland of this prosciutto. Heir to the historic 'Aria di Festa' event, which for over thirty years celebrated the famous sweet cured ham, the event has broadened its scope to encompass the entire food and wine heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, while keeping the DOP prosciutto as the absolute star.
The setting is San Daniele del Friuli, nestled on Colle Massimo between the morainic hills and the Tagliamento river. It is precisely the microclimate of these heights, breezy and temperate, that makes the prosciutto's curing process unique: for this reason, the festival is experienced by strolling through the historic centre, among open prosciutto factories, squares, and palaces, in a continuous dialogue between product and territory.
The programme intertwines guided tastings, masterclasses where San Daniele DOP is paired with wines, beers, and other denomination products, food stands, picnics to savour local specialities, and guided tours of the town's architectural beauties. Alongside the prosciutto, other regional excellences are featured, such as Montasio DOP cheese, the great Friulian white wines, and products from the 'Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia' brand. The event, promoted by the Prosciutto di San Daniele Consortium with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and PromoTurismoFVG, is enhanced by satellite events along the Wine and Flavours Route. The great festival of Prosciutto di San Daniele DOP returns to San Daniele del Friuli from August 26 to 29, 2026, organised by the Prosciutto di San Daniele Consortium. For four days, the historic centre comes alive with guided tastings, masterclasses, food stands, picnics, and tours of the town's architectural beauties.

San Daniele del Friuli can be reached by car from Udine in about half an hour (SS463). During the event, the historic centre is largely pedestrianised: it is advisable to park in the external areas.
