The symbol of Carnia's dish in the hamlet of Piedim
In the small hamlet of Piedim, along the provincial road that crosses the municipality of Arta Terme, a beloved event for Friulian gourmets is held every September: the Cjarsons Festival. The absolute star is the symbol dish of Carnia, *cjarsons*: a sweet and sour raviolo, considered "a poor dish, but very complicated and rich in flavors".
The cjarsons of Piedim follow a secret recipe that combines surprising ingredients: cocoa, dried fruit, raisins, ricotta, and potato in the dough, two types of jam, and a touch of grappa. Every Carnic family has its own version, but those served during the festival have become a small classic, capable of telling the gastronomic history of these mountains in a single bite.
In addition to cjarsons, the festival stands offer other typical Carnic dishes, sausages, and grilled meats, in a convivial atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the valley. Live music accompanies the evenings, with various bands performing under the marquee equipped with a dance floor, where the party continues until late at night.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Piedim and Carnia, a land of traditions, authentic flavors, and mountain landscapes. Organized by the local community, it is one of those village festivals where gastronomy becomes an identity narrative.
For 2026, the Piedim Cjarsons Festival is scheduled, as tradition dictates, in September. The event will again feature its signature dish – cjarsons with cocoa, dried fruit, raisins, and ricotta – alongside other typical Carnic dishes, grilled meats, and musical evenings with a dance floor under the marquee.
The exact dates have not yet been confirmed by the organizers: in recent editions, the festival has been held in mid-September, over a long weekend from Friday to Sunday.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks. Based on previous editions, the typical festival structure includes:
