The autumn farmers' market in Lagundo, featuring chestnuts, speck, and farm-fresh flavors
The Algunder Bauernmarkt, also known as the Autumn Festival – Keschtn & Genuss (Chestnuts & Delights), is the most anticipated gastronomic event of the autumn in Lagundo/Algund, a charming garden village just minutes from Merano, in the heart of the Burgraviato district, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). For several days, the Kirchplatz, the church square in the town center, transforms into a lively open-air market where local producers showcase the best of their land.
When farmers bring in the harvest and transform nature's gifts into high-quality products according to tradition, the square fills with stalls laden with typical South Tyrolean specialties:
The unmistakable scent of freshly roasted chestnuts (the "Keschtn") accompanies visitors throughout the day: fresh roasted chestnuts are prepared daily, while some farmers offer homemade dishes to enjoy with new wines and seasonal drinks.
What makes the Algunder Bauernmarkt special is the direct relationship with those who cultivate and produce: farmers are happy to share their stories, cultivation techniques, and harvesting and processing methods with visitors. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the authentic taste of nature and the quality of South Tyrolean products during what locals consider the most flavorful time of the year.
The event is certified as a GreenEvent: it prioritizes organic and regional products, reduces the use of plastic, and encourages environmentally friendly mobility. Organizers invite the public to reach the Kirchplatz on foot, by bicycle, or via public transport (bus lines 213, 235, and 237). The square is completely flat and accessible via the elevator from the underground parking lot.
The Algunder Bauernmarkt is part of the rich autumn calendar of Lagundo and the Merano area, featuring Törggelen, chestnut days, and gastronomic events that enliven the season. A perfect trip to combine the farmers' market with a walk along the famous Algunder Waalweg (irrigation channel path) or a stroll through the vineyards and orchards that color the valley in autumn.
From October 22 to 25, 2026, the Kirchplatz in Lagundo/Algund will host the 2026 edition of the Autumn Festival "Keschtn & Genuss". Farmers' stalls will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
As per tradition, local producers will offer speck and cured meats, cheeses, honey products, baked specialties, liqueurs and spirits, fruit preserves, and much more. Fresh chestnuts will be roasted daily, and local farmers will serve homemade dishes accompanied by new wines. The event is organized as a GreenEvent, featuring sustainable mobility (buses 213, 235, 237) and plastic reduction.
