The historic annual market of Laces along Marktstraße, in the Vinschgau Valley
The Latsch Annual Market — in Italian, the mercato annuale of Laces — is one of the historic mercantile events of the Vinschgau Valley (Val Venosta), in the heart of South Tyrol. Organized by the Marktgemeinde Latsch (Municipality of Laces), it takes place along Marktstraße, the market street that runs through the town center, and returns several times throughout the year according to a schedule set by the municipal administration.
This is not an isolated event but a deep-rooted custom: strolling through the stalls of the market means immersing oneself in an ancient ritual that marks the seasons throughout the valley. It is both a shopping experience and an opportunity for meeting and socializing for the inhabitants of Laces and neighboring villages, as well as for visitors passing through the Vinschgau Valley.
Numerous stalls line Marktstraße with a wide variety of goods. The offerings include in particular:
The format is that of a traditional open-air market: you walk along the street, browse the stalls, chat with vendors, and shop in a genuine, village atmosphere.
Laces (Latsch in German) is a municipality in the autonomous province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige, nestled in the sunny Vinschgau Valley along the Adige River. A land of apple orchards, ancient farmsteads, and hiking trails, the valley maintains a dense network of annual markets (Jahrmärkte) that keep a centuries-old tradition alive from village to village. The Latsch Annual Market fits into this fabric as one of the most regular and popular events in the valley floor.
Those visiting the market can easily combine a stroll through the stalls with the discovery of the historic center of Laces and its surroundings, the heart of a tourist-oriented territory blending sports, nature, and Central European culture.
