Nero di Troia celebrated in the Cathedral Square
The Wine Festival in Troia is the summer highlight that the municipality, located in the Monti Dauni in the province of Foggia (Puglia), dedicates to its signature grape variety: Uva di Troia, the foundation of the Nero di Troia DOC Tavoliere delle Puglie. The event takes place in the evocative Cathedral Square, at the foot of the famous eleven-spoked Romanesque rose window that makes Troia one of the most admired art destinations in the Capitanata region.
Nero di Troia is considered one of the three great red wines of Puglia, the so-called "red trident" of the region alongside Primitivo and Negroamaro. The festival was created to promote this native grape and the work of local wineries, united under the Consorzio di Tutela del DOC Tavoliere, which supports the event alongside Confcooperative Foggia, the Municipality of Troia, the Puglia Region, GAL Meridaunia, the AIS, and other local entities. In recent years, Troia has also joined the national Città del Vino network, which brings together hundreds of Italian municipalities dedicated to oenological culture.
The heart of the evening is the food and wine trail that winds through the square and the streets of the historic center: winery stalls, guided tastings of Nero di Troia, and samplings of typical products from the Monti Dauni, ranging from cheeses and cured meats to bread and traditional Capitanata peasant dishes. Guests stroll with a glass in hand, accompanied by live music and street performers animating the corners of the village.
The festival is preceded by the historic Regional Conference on Uva di Troia, a moment of technical and cultural insight that gathers producers, oenologists, food journalists, and industry experts each year to discuss the present and future of the grape, new market challenges, and projects for regional development. The conference testifies to the deep bond between the popular event and research into the viticultural identity of the Daunia area.
Experiencing the Wine Festival also means discovering Troia, its medieval layout, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and the traditional hospitality of the Monti Dauni. The evening combines fine food and wine, culture, and social life, confirming its status as one of the most anticipated events of the Capitanata summer.
The Wine Festival in Troia returns on July 11, 2026, in the setting of the Cathedral Square, with the 25th Regional Conference on Uva di Troia and the food and wine trail dedicated to Nero di Troia DOC and typical Capitanata products. The evening is part of the Estate Troiana 2026, the rich summer program of the Municipality of Troia. The detailed program of the event, including conference guests and musical entertainment, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Troia is located in the province of Foggia, in the Monti Dauni. By car, it can be reached from the A16 motorway (Candela exit) or the A14 (Foggia exit), continuing along the SS546. The nearest train station is Foggia, which is connected to Troia by local bus lines.
The events are concentrated in the Cathedral Square and the historic center of Troia. Access to the square is free; for tastings, the purchase of a glass or a tasting kit at the winery stalls may be required.
The event is held in summer during the evening: comfortable clothing is recommended for walking through the village. Numerous farmhouses and accommodations in the Monti Dauni offer hospitality in the surrounding area.
