The summer festival of the Municipality of Montemiletto, featuring concerts, traditions, and community events
Estate Insieme is the summer festival promoted by the Municipality of Montemiletto, a village in the province of Avellino overlooking the Calore Valley in Campania. It is not just a single event, but a comprehensive program: from early July to the third week of September, the calendar features dozens of appointments, ranging from concerts in the squares to religious feasts, local tournaments, and workshops for children. The name says it all: the idea is to experience the summer "together" (insieme), bringing residents, returning expats, and visitors out into the streets.
The program is the result of a collaborative effort between the municipal administration, local parishes, and numerous local associations — from the Pro Loco Mons Militum to the Progetto Giovani Association, from the Women's Forum of Montemiletto to the Lions Mons Militum. Each group contributes its own event to a single framework, which explains the variety of the calendar: alongside popular musical evenings, you will find children's treasure hunts, the Volunteer Festival, vintage vehicle exhibitions, and creative workshops. The festival, which over the years has also been known as Estate Montemilettese, is now a fixed appointment in the municipal cultural schedule.
The spectacular heart of the festival is Piazza IV Novembre, which hosts the most anticipated concert of the season every August: over the years, well-known names from the Italian pop and singer-songwriter scene have performed here, with highly attended free-entry evenings. Surrounding the main stage are more intimate events tied to local identity: brass bands accompanying patronal feasts, Ferragosto dance evenings, folk music concerts, and festivals dedicated to world music.
An important part of the calendar is marked by the liturgical schedule and the devotions of the town and its hamlets. It begins in July with the celebrations in honor of Maria Santissima delle Grazie, continues with Saint Anne, the patron saint San Gaetano da Thiene in August, Saint Anthony of Padua, and Saint Lucy, closing in September with the feast of Saint Eustace the Martyr in the hamlet of Montaperto. These are moments where processions, illuminations, brass band concerts, and fireworks displays coexist with the festival's civil program.
In September, the festival reaches its most iconic moment with the historical re-enactment set around the Castello Della Leonessa, the manor that dominates the town. A costume pageant, taverns, ancient crafts, and performances transport Montemiletto back to its medieval and Renaissance era, in a production that involves dozens of local participants and has become the most recognizable event of the Montemiletto summer over the years.
Estate Insieme is the ideal gateway to a part of Irpinia less traveled by mass tourism: a hillside village a few kilometers from Avellino, surrounded by vineyards that produce some of the most famous white wines in Campania. Participating means finding full squares without excessive crowds, affordable prices, local cuisine, and a community that welcomes you with natural warmth. It is a village summer in the most beautiful sense: mostly free of charge, open to all ages, and enjoyed outdoors until late at night.
The 2026 program promoted by the Municipality of Montemiletto opens on Saturday, July 4 and closes on September 20, covering almost three months of events in the squares, districts, and hamlets. The formula remains the proven one: widespread events, almost all free, built together with the town's parishes and associations.
The main attraction is the concert by Elettra Lamborghini, a stop on her Tour Bilaterale, scheduled for August 6 in Piazza IV Novembre. Around this date, the district tournament, patronal feasts with brass bands, summer evenings in the Torricella area and in the shadow of the Castle, family formats, and the historical re-enactment in early September — the true identity heart of the Montemiletto summer — are distributed.
The program then continues throughout September with the celebrations of Saint Lucy and the feast of Saint Eustace the Martyr in Montaperto, which officially closes the festival.
Montemiletto is located in the province of Avellino, in Campania, about 20 km from the provincial capital. By car, take the A16 Naples-Canosa motorway and exit at the Benevento-Castel del Lago or Grottaminarda junction, then continue on the provincial roads. The most convenient train stations are in Benevento or Avellino, which are connected to the town by regional bus lines. The reference airport is Naples-Capodichino, just over an hour away by car.
Events are distributed between Piazza IV Novembre, the historic center at the foot of the Castello Della Leonessa, the main avenue, the Municipal Villa, the «Gina» municipal stadium, and hamlets such as Montaperto and the Torricella area.
Almost all events are free to attend, including concerts in the square. Any costs only apply to catering, food stands, and certain association-led initiatives.
Hillside evenings can be cool even in August: it is advisable to bring a light sweater. Parking near the square fills up quickly on concert nights, so it is better to arrive early. For overnight stays, there are farmhouses (agriturismi) and B&Bs in the neighboring towns of the Greco di Tufo and Fiano area.
