A wine-filled evening in the historic courtyards of Cornaiano, the oldest wine-growing village in South Tyrol.
The WEINSOMMER in Girlan — the Cornaiano Wine Summer — is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the summer in Appiano sulla Strada del Vino (Eppan an der Weinstraße), in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. Every year, on an August evening, the historic courtyards and cellars of Cornaiano (Girlan) open their doors to welcome enthusiasts and curious visitors for a tasting journey through the village alleys.
Cornaiano is considered the oldest wine-growing village in South Tyrol: here, viticulture is rooted in centuries of tradition, and the WEINSOMMER celebrates this very soul. For one night, the entire village transforms into an open-air lounge where wine, gastronomy, and music meet in a convivial, Mediterranean atmosphere.
The stars of the evening are the wines from Appiano producers: from labels by major cooperatives to small family-run estates, the event offers the chance to taste the best of local production, from fresh, mineral whites to native reds like Schiava and Lagrein. Tastings are paired with local gastronomic specialties and enlivened by live music, which accompanies visitors from courtyard to courtyard until late in the evening.
The route winds through the village's historic wine courtyards, authentic farmsteads and cellars that open exclusively to the public: past editions have featured venues such as Hof am Platz, Raifer, Glögglhof, Mauracherhof, and the Girlan Winery, providing an authentic backdrop for an experience that blends oenology, local culture, and South Tyrolean hospitality.
The WEINSOMMER is part of the rich calendar of events in Appiano, one of the iconic towns on the South Tyrolean Wine Road, and represents an ideal opportunity to discover Cornaiano and its viticultural heritage. The event is organized by the Appiano Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Eppan) in collaboration with local producers.
Immersed in the landscape of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, among vineyards, farmsteads, and ancient cellars, the evening is designed for both locals and tourists visiting South Tyrol in summer, offering a genuine taste of the wine culture of this bilingual region in Trentino-Alto Adige.
