The comedy of errors by Volksbühne Lana, performed at the Raiffeisenhaus in Lana
In the heart of the Burgraviato area, the municipality of Lana (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol) hosts the latest production by Volksbühne Lana, one of the most established amateur theatre companies in the region, at the Raiffeisenhaus. True to their motto «with heart, head, and passion», the company stages one or two German-language productions each season, continuing a local theatrical tradition documented in Lana since the early 19th century.
The 2026 production is the comedy «Im Himmel ist kein Zimmer frei» (No room in heaven), a comedy of errors written by French playwright Jean Stuart (original title «Un strapontin au ciel»), presented here in a German-language version directed by Kathrin Hirber.
The plot is a true comic clockwork mechanism: Paul, a wealthy businessman, dies in a car accident while leaving for vacation. Upon arriving in heaven, he discovers that the system is malfunctioning and there is no room left: Saint Peter has no choice but to send him back to Earth. However, upon returning to his villa, Paul finds his business partner has moved in with his mistress, triggering a whirlwind of mistaken identities, lies, and plot twists.
Volksbühne Lana is known for its meticulous staging and a repertoire that alternates between brilliant comedies, cabaret, and fairy tales for families. Performances are held in the Raiffeisenhaus hall in Lana, an intimate setting that fosters a direct connection between actors and the audience. The show is performed in German, in keeping with the theatrical tradition of the German-speaking valleys of South Tyrol.
The 2026 edition premieres on May 8th with further performances throughout the month of May, all at the Raiffeisenhaus in Lana. Ticket prices are affordable, designed for families: 15 euros for adults and 6 euros for children. Booking is recommended and can be done via the company's official website or by phone.
