Evening lantern-lit walks through the streets of Marlengo during Advent
The Advent Lantern Walks are a highlight of the Christmas calendar in Marlengo (Marling), a charming village nestled on the sunny slopes above Merano, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. On Advent evenings, the village center is transformed: lit lanterns guide small groups of participants along a peaceful route through the houses, streets, and the church square, creating the intimate, cozy atmosphere typical of South Tyrolean villages.
The walk is led by a guide who shares historical anecdotes and curiosities about Marlengo's past and present, interspersed with various Christmas stories and legends. The pace is leisurely and suitable for everyone, designed for families and those wishing to experience Advent away from the bustle of large Christmas markets. The meeting point is in front of the Marlengo tourist office, at Piazza Chiesa 5, where the itinerary through the heart of the village begins.
At the end of the walk, participants are welcomed at the music pavilion (Musikpavillon) in Marlengo, where the journey concludes with a small refreshment: sweet pastries accompanied by a glass of Marlengo wine for adults or, alternatively, a refreshing South Tyrolean apple juice. It is the warmest and most social moment of the evening, closing the experience with the authentic taste of local products—the apples and wine that have always defined this corner of the Merano area.
Immersed in apple orchards and vineyards, famous for its Waalweg (the path along the irrigation channel) and the crown of fruit trees that surrounds it, Marlengo offers a discreet yet heartfelt program during Advent, in which these lantern walks sit alongside other traditional village events. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience South Tyrolean Christmas in an authentic way, amidst soft lights, stories, and local flavors.
In 2026, the Advent Lantern Walks in Marlengo are scheduled for three evenings: Friday, December 11, Friday, December 18, and Monday, December 28. On each date, the meeting point is at 4:30 PM in front of the Marlengo tourist office at Piazza Chiesa 5, and the guided walk through the village center continues until approximately 6:00 PM.
The guide accompanies participants along the village streets, alternating historical facts and curiosities about Marlengo with Christmas tales and stories. At the end, at the village music pavilion, a convivial moment is offered with sweet pastries, a glass of Marlengo wine for adults, or a South Tyrolean apple juice.
Participation costs €6.00 for adults and €3.00 for children aged 6 to 17. Booking is mandatory and must be done online or at the Marlengo tourist office by 12:00 PM on Friday.
