The South Tyrolean hub for Italy's top wines and beyond
Vinaltum is a wine forum dedicated to top wines from Italy and beyond, with a special focus on the labels of Trentino-Alto Adige. Established in 2024 and quickly becoming one of the most refined appointments on the regional wine scene, the event takes place every May. The early editions were hosted at Schloss Freudenstein in Appiano sulla strada del vino (Eppan an der Weinstraße), in the province of Bolzano—a historic residence protected by the Fine Arts authorities and now a venue for exclusive events.
The philosophy of Vinaltum is encapsulated in its motto, "Wine connects people": wine as a tool for meeting and knowledge-sharing among producers, buyers, sommeliers, and enthusiasts. The event spans two days: Sunday is open to the public and wine lovers, while Monday is primarily reserved for industry professionals, trade experts, and invited guests.
The heart of Vinaltum lies in its tasting stands, which bring together wineries selected from numerous Italian regions and various foreign countries. The experience is complemented by masterclasses led by experts and wine talk sessions, providing in-depth opportunities where wine becomes a narrative of its territory. Among the most appreciated initiatives are the Calice Maestro, dedicated to those under 35 and designed to introduce young people to wine culture, and the Big Bottle Party, the convivial gathering that concludes the first day with the tasting of large-format bottles.
Vinaltum is promoted by a group of professionals associated with the FISAR (Italian Federation of Sommeliers, Hoteliers, and Restaurateurs) of Bolzano and Bassa Atesina. The event highlights the municipality of Appiano sulla strada del vino and, more broadly, the oenological identity of Trentino-Alto Adige, a land with a rich winemaking tradition. It is a benchmark event for those seeking excellence in the glass, set in an elegant context among the vineyards of the Oltradige region.
For its third edition, Vinaltum changed its look and venue, moving on May 17 and 18, 2026, to Castel Mareccio, a medieval manor surrounded by vineyards in the heart of Bolzano. Over 60 wineries from numerous Italian regions (South Tyrol, Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Trentino, Abruzzo, Marche, Lazio, Puglia) and abroad animated the tasting stands.
The cultural program included five masterclasses in the castle's Sala Hendl and four wine talks, featuring vertical tastings and in-depth sessions dedicated to excellent labels. The Calice Maestro for those under 35 and the Sunday evening Big Bottle Party also returned. The event was held under the patronage of the Bolzano Tourist Board.
Appiano sulla strada del vino (Eppan an der Weinstraße) can be reached by car in a few minutes from the Bolzano Sud motorway exit (A22 Brenner Motorway). The reference train station is Bolzano, which is connected to the Oltradige area by local buses.
Admission is ticketed; tickets for tastings and masterclasses can be purchased via the Vivaticket and Clappit platforms, as well as the official website. Advance booking for masterclasses is recommended, as places are limited.
Check the dates and the updated venue on the official website vinaltum.it, as the event may change locations between editions.
