The autumn Törggelen festival at the Glögglhof in Cornaiano
The Törggelefest of the Musikkapelle Girlan is the autumn event where the Cornaiano (Girlan in German) brass band celebrates the end of the grape harvest. It takes place at the Glögglhof farm on St.-Florian-Straße, located in one of the most picturesque villages of the municipality of Appiano sulla strada del vino (Eppan an der Weinstraße), in the heart of the Bassa Atesina, in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige).
The term Törggelen comes from the wine press (Latin torculum) and refers to the ancient South Tyrolean custom of visiting farms in late October to taste new wine, roasted chestnuts, and seasonal rustic dishes. Here, the Musikkapelle Girlan brings this tradition into the courtyard of the Glögglhof, opening the farm's doors to both locals and visitors.
The heart of the festival is the live brass band music. The Musikkapelle Girlan performs throughout the weekend and invites guest bands and ensembles, featuring evening entertainment and the classic Sunday morning Frühschoppen. The atmosphere is that of an intimate, convivial South Tyrolean farm, with wooden benches, warm lighting, and the aromas of mountain cuisine.
The festival's menu is entirely dedicated to autumn specialties prepared by the band's volunteers:
Cornaiano is one of the wine-growing villages of Appiano, one of the most vineyard-rich municipalities in South Tyrol, famous for its white wines and the landscape of vineyards surrounding the Monzoccolo plateau. The Törggelefest is the ideal opportunity to discover this food and wine tradition in an authentic setting, far from mass tourism, and to experience the community spirit of a local brass band.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Törggelefest of the Musikkapelle Girlan are confirmed for the weekend of October 3 and 4, 2026, at the Glögglhof farm in Cornaiano/Girlan, Appiano sulla strada del vino (province of Bolzano).
As every year, the festival opens on Saturday afternoon with evening music and continues on Sunday morning with the traditional Frühschoppen. In the kitchen, Törggelen specialties: roasted chestnuts, canederli, Schlutzkrapfen, speck, Surfleisch with sauerkraut, and apple krapfen, to be paired with Cornaiano wines and new wine. The precise schedule of the brass band performances will be announced by the Musikkapelle Girlan closer to the event.
The Glögglhof is located at St.-Florian-Straße 21 (entrance from Naunstraße 1), in the village of Cornaiano/Girlan in Appiano sulla strada del vino. By car from the A22 motorway, take the Bolzano Sud exit, then head towards Appiano/Eppan (about 15 minutes). Parking is available in the village.
Free admission. The festival takes place over the weekend: opening on Saturday afternoon with evening music, continuing on Sunday from the morning until the early afternoon.
