About Urrà! in transit

Urrà! in transit is a mini-festival dedicated to fantasy, storytelling, and performing arts that brings the center of Partanna to life for three summer days in the heart of the Belìce Valley, in the province of Trapani. Conceived by Giuseppe Maiorana and promoted by the Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva ETS association with the patronage of the Municipality of Partanna, the event weaves together puppet theater, contemporary circus, storytelling, and workshops for children, families, and educators. The Museo Urbano on Via Caprera becomes a widespread stage where the community gathers around creativity and shared culture.

A festival that traverses Partanna

Urrà! in transit is a cultural event held in August in Partanna, a town in the Belìce Valley in the province of Trapani, Sicily. Born as a small neighborhood festival, it has grown edition after edition to become a highly anticipated late-summer event in Partanna, capable of combining live performances, workshops, and moments of reflection on the community. The heart of the activities is the Museo Urbano on Via Caprera, which for a few days transforms into a meeting place open to children, families, and adults.

Fantasy, stories, and street arts

The festival program is structured around various performing arts languages. Puppet theater and the marionettes of the Sicilian tradition coexist with contemporary circus, animated readings, storytelling, and the presentation of illustrated books. Alongside the evening shows, an important part of the event is dedicated to workshops for children, designed for different age groups and divided into thematic sections such as fantasy, stories, and circus.

A community event

More than just a simple series of shows, Urrà! in transit positions itself as a project of social and cultural regeneration. The idea, carried forward by creator Giuseppe Maiorana and the Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva ETS association, is to create networks between citizens, schools, and institutions, valuing urban spaces as places of connection. For this reason, the festival complements its shows with workshops exploring the territory and discussion sessions aimed at teachers, educators, and cultural workers.

For young and old

The target audience is broad and intergenerational: children aged 4 to 12 find workshops and shows designed for them, while families and adults can attend book presentations, theatrical and circus performances, and meetings dedicated to the educational role of culture. Each edition revolves around a theme that acts as a common thread for the artistic offerings, giving unity to the program.

The context of the Belìce Valley

Partanna rises in a territory marked by the memory of the 1968 Belìce earthquake and the long process of reconstruction. In this context, an event like Urrà! in transit takes on a special value: bringing art, play, and culture into public spaces also means re-tying the threads of a community, offering the youngest opportunities for growth and citizens moments of social interaction. The festival thus becomes a small but significant cultural experience in the summer landscape of the province of Trapani.
