The Castelvetrano Christmas Markets are the most anticipated winter event in the town of Castelvetrano, located in the province of Trapani, Western Sicily. Throughout the weekends of the holiday season, the charming Sistema delle Piazze in the historic center—the city's monumental heart—dresses up for the festivities, hosting wooden chalets, twinkling lights, and entertainment for all ages.
The wooden Christmas chalets, provided free of charge by the municipal administration to local associations, hobbyists, artisans, and producers, offer a rich variety of goods:
One of the most iconic features of the event is the grand monumental light projections that illuminate the main historic buildings in the center: a visually stunning installation that sets the scene for the evenings. In Piazza Umberto I, by the historic fountain, you will find the Presepe della Ninfa, a nativity scene deeply cherished by the local community.
The program is designed with the little ones in mind: the Sistema delle Piazze features a dedicated space with Santa Claus and a professional photographer, as well as entertainment, live music, and small performances throughout the December weekends.
The Christmas spirit in Castelvetrano extends beyond the center: the seaside hamlet of Marinella di Selinunte, overlooking the sea and famous for the nearby Selinunte Archaeological Park, also hosts craft markets, nativity scene exhibitions, and food stalls, offering a picturesque Christmas by the sea. An ice skating rink in the commercial area completes the winter entertainment offerings.
As one of the most important cities in Western Sicily, Castelvetrano experiences a moment of strong social cohesion and historic center revitalization during the Christmas period. The Christmas Markets, which are free and open to all, have become a perfect opportunity to rediscover the monumental squares, support local artisans and producers, and share the holiday spirit in an authentically Sicilian setting.
The official program and dates for the 2026 edition of the Castelvetrano Christmas Markets have not yet been published. Barring any changes, the event is expected to take place in December in the Sistema delle Piazze, maintaining the format with wooden chalets dedicated to artisans and local producers, artistic projections on historic buildings, and family entertainment.
