The Agrigento village transforms into an open-air stage for the Nativity
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Calamonaci Living Nativity is a Nativity representation that brings the historic center of this small town in the province of Agrigento, Sicily, to life during the Christmas season. For several evenings, the streets and squares of the village turn into a large open-air stage: along the route, which starts at Piazza San Vincenzo Ferreri and ends on Via Crispi, huts made of natural materials are erected where costumed performers bring scenes of Christian tradition and the daily life of ancient Palestine to life.
The heart of the event is the rediscovery of traditional crafts: along the path, you will encounter the blacksmith, the potter, the carpenter, the baker, and the weaver, all busy demonstrating techniques handed down from generation to generation. To make the atmosphere even more authentic, there are animals in pens and numerous tasting points where you can sample local products: wood-fired bread, cheeses, cured meats, Christmas sweets, and local wine.
The Living Nativity is born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Calamonaci, the San Vincenzo Ferreri Parish, and the Sipario4 Association, with the goal of enhancing local culture and products, promoting ancient crafts, and actively involving young people in a community project. The entire village mobilizes to welcome visitors in an experience that weaves together spirituality, culture, and beauty.
A visit to the Calamonaci Living Nativity is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Agrigento hinterland during the holidays, far from the major tourist circuits and immersed in the most genuine traditions of Sicily.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Calamonaci Living Nativity have not yet been officially announced. As it is a Christmas event, it is likely that, should it be held again, it will take place during the period between Christmas and New Year's, as was the case for the first edition in 2025. For updates, it is advisable to follow the channels of the Municipality of Calamonaci and the San Vincenzo Ferreri Parish.
Calamonaci is located in the hinterland of the province of Agrigento. By car, it can be reached via the SS115 and the provincial roads connecting the Platani Valley; the nearest airports are Palermo or Trapani-Birgi, while the reference railway station is Agrigento.
The performance takes place in the historic center, starting from Piazza San Vincenzo Ferreri. Warm clothing and comfortable footwear are recommended for walking through the village streets.
