Trabocchi and Ventricina del Vastese is the food and wine event in Pollutri, in the province of Chieti, that celebrates one of the iconic products of Abruzzo: the Ventricina del Vastese, a traditional cured sausage recognized as a Slow Food Presidium. The event was born from the desire to connect and promote high-quality Abruzzo and Molise products, fostering a dialogue between the coast and the Vastese hinterland.
The festival takes place in the picnic area of the Bosco di Don Venanzio Regional Nature Reserve, a green oasis nestled in nature just a few kilometers from the coast, near the forest lodge. This protected corner of the Pollutri municipality offers a shaded, relaxing backdrop, perfect for enjoying summer evenings amidst the scents of the Mediterranean scrub and local gastronomy.
The heart of the event is the tasting menu, which showcases the Ventricina del Vastese in various preparations. The menu features ventricina as an appetizer with mozzarella and tomatoes, followed by gnocchetti with ventricina and asparagus sauce, "cif e ciaf" ventricina (pan-fried), and tasty ventricina skewers. Other traditional Abruzzo delicacies are also available, such as arrosticini and scrippelle, in a culinary journey that highlights the region's finest offerings.
The event is organized by the Associazione Costa dei Trabocchi APS in collaboration with Slow Food and the Ventricina del Vastese Presidium, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pollutri. The initiative is part of a broader regional marketing strategy aimed at promoting the knowledge and flavors of the Costa dei Trabocchi, from the coast to the inland hills, offering residents and visitors an authentic opportunity to discover Abruzzo's gastronomic culture.
