About Craftsmanship and Flavors

Every December, Guardiagrele—a stone-built village nestled at the foot of the Maiella mountains—hosts the Abruzzo Artistic Craftsmanship and Flavors festival. Held at the Palazzo dell'Artigianato, this three-day event celebrates the region's food, wine, and artisanal excellence. Through guided tastings, masterclasses, children's workshops, and cultural talks, visitors can discover local specialties like the famous torrone and prosciutto cotto of Guardiagrele, along with pecorino cheeses, olive oil, and native wines. This free-entry event is organized by the Ente Mostra dell'Artigianato Artistico Abruzzese in one of Italy's most beautiful villages.

Abruzzo Artistic Craftsmanship and Flavors in Guardiagrele

Abruzzo Artistic Craftsmanship and Flavors is the winter festival that brings the historic center of Guardiagrele, in the province of Chieti, to life every December. Organized by the Ente Mostra dell'Artigianato Artistico Abruzzese within the Palazzo dell'Artigianato on Via Roma 28, the event serves as the winter extension of the historic Summer Craft Exhibition, weaving together art, culture, and local flavors over three days.

A journey through Abruzzo's flavors

The heart of the event is a sensory journey through the region's gastronomic excellence. The undisputed stars are the typical products of Guardiagrele and the Abruzzo hinterland: the famous torrone of Guardiagrele, prosciutto cotto, extra virgin olive oil, pecorino cheeses from the four Abruzzo provinces, legumes, Maiella honey, and native wines. Each edition features guided tastings, masterclasses led by food technologists, chefs, and producers, and themed dinners that highlight local biodiversity and culinary traditions.

Workshops, meetings, and culture

Beyond tastings, the program includes cultural meetings dedicated to Abruzzo's gastronomic traditions, conferences on the value of local products, and educational workshops for children, such as cookie-making sessions with the event's mascot. The festival thus combines taste with education and craftsmanship, engaging schools, families, and enthusiasts alike.

Guardiagrele, the city of stone

The setting is Guardiagrele, a village listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, which Gabriele d'Annunzio described in The Triumph of Death as the "city of stone." Perched on the eastern slopes of the Maiella massif, the town has been the capital of Abruzzo's artistic craftsmanship for centuries, famous for its gold, wrought iron, and copper work. This winter gathering is the perfect opportunity to discover the medieval historic center, its workshops, and the food and wine culture of Abruzzo during the evocative pre-Christmas period.

A free event in the heart of Abruzzo

With free admission, Abruzzo Artistic Craftsmanship and Flavors has established itself as one of the most anticipated winter events in Abruzzo, attracting visitors from across the region and beyond. The festival promotes gastronomic tourism in the municipality of Guardiagrele and the entire Abruzzo region, showcasing the best of the local tradition of craftsmanship and agri-food excellence.

Craftsmanship and Flavors — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Abruzzo Artistic Craftsmanship and Flavors is expected to take place in December at the Palazzo dell'Artigianato in Guardiagrele, as per tradition. Official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Ente Mostra dell'Artigianato Artistico Abruzzese. The event, which in previous years has been held during the first weekends of December, will once again offer its usual journey through guided tastings, masterclasses, children's workshops, and meetings dedicated to the food and artisanal excellence of Abruzzo.

The new edition of Abruzzo Artistic Craftsmanship and Flavors is scheduled for December 2026 in Guardiagrele, at the Palazzo dell'Artigianato on Via Roma 28. At the moment, the precise dates and program have not yet been released by the Ente Mostra dell'Artigianato Artistico Abruzzese. We recommend checking for updates on the official website www.artigianatoabruzzese.it and the organization's social media channels.
