About Autumn Flavours in the Village

Every late October, Villa Romagnoliโ€”a hamlet of Mozzagrogna in the province of Chietiโ€”hosts "Autumn Flavours in the Village," a festival organized by the Pro Loco Romagnoli APS. For two evenings, the village streets turn into a culinary trail celebrating rural traditions, new oil, new wine, and historic cellars reopened to the public. Between spaghetti alla Trappitara, cod ciabbotteli, crispelle, chestnuts, and mulled wine, accompanied by live music and autumn scents, this small Abruzzo village celebrates the genuine flavors of the Frentania region.

An autumn festival in the heart of Frentania

Every year, towards the end of October, the village of Villa Romagnoli, a hamlet of Mozzagrogna in the province of Chieti, lights up for Autumn Flavours in the Village. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Romagnoli APS, has become a staple in the Abruzzo festival calendar: two evenings where the narrow streets of the small town transform into a long, delicious open-air food and wine trail.

A journey through the flavors of the Frentania land

The heart of the festival is the promotion of local products and the ancient rural traditions of this corner of Abruzzo. Strolling through the alleys, you can taste local specialties prepared according to old-time recipes:

  • Spaghetti alla Trappitara, a signature dish linked to the Cav. Cocco pasta factory;
  • Cod ciabbotteli, tasty traditional fritters;
  • Fried crispelle, chestnuts, and taralli;
  • New oil and wine, fresh from local mills and cellars;
  • Hot mulled wine to warm up during the autumn evenings.

Historic cellars open their doors

One of the most evocative aspects of the festival is the opening of the village's historic cellars, which are usually closed to the public. For this occasion, these spaces come back to life, offering visitors a dive into the rural memory of Villa Romagnoli and the wine culture of Frentania. To accompany the tasting, live music played in various corners of the village creates a warm and convivial atmosphere.

A village, a community

More than just a festival, Autumn Flavours is a community celebration: the Pro Loco Romagnoli involves volunteers, producers, and local families in an event that combines gastronomy, folklore, and popular traditions. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic village in the Chieti hinterland, far from the main tourist circuits, and to experience the Abruzzo autumn amidst colors, scents, and genuine flavors.

Where it takes place

The event is held in Villa Romagnoli, a hamlet of Mozzagrogna (CH), in the hinterland of the Costa dei Trabocchi, in Abruzzo. The village is easily accessible from the Val di Sangro and the main towns in the province of Chieti.
