Mugello-style tortelli and porcini mushrooms celebrated in the heart of the Mugello region
Every summer, the village of Ronta, located in the municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo in the heart of the Mugello (Province of Florence, Tuscany), gathers for one of its most beloved events: the Tortello and Porcini Mushroom Festival. Organized by FCD Borgo San Lorenzo, the event enlivens the Ronta sports field on Viale Fratelli Rosselli for two weeks, transforming it into a large, convivial open-air space where local families and visitors come together to dine.
The heart of the festival is the famous Mugello tortello, a potato-filled pasta that is one of the defining recipes of this area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Prepared according to tradition, with thin rolled dough and a savory potato filling, it is traditionally served with meat ragรน. Alongside the tortello, the star of the summer edition is the cuisine featuring porcini mushrooms, harvested in the Mugello forests and served in various ways. The menu is completed by tagliatelle and traditional grilled meat, the cornerstones of any self-respecting Tuscan village festival.
More than just a gastronomic event, the Tortello and Porcini Mushroom Festival is a social occasion for Ronta and the entire Mugello area. The stalls are run by volunteers from the local sports club, creating the genuine atmosphere of a village feast: long tables, lively conversation, and the aromas of Tuscan cooking drifting through the evening air. It is also a way to support the activities of FCD Borgo San Lorenzo and the community life of the village.
Ronta is one of the liveliest villages in the Borgo San Lorenzo summer calendar, which hosts various tortello festivals promoted by local associations throughout the season. The July event dedicated to tortelli and porcini is among the most cherished, as it combines two local excellences: handmade pasta and the porcini mushrooms of the Apennines. For those visiting the Mugello in summer, it is the perfect opportunity to discover the authentic cuisine of this land just a few kilometers from Florence.
The Tortello and Porcini Mushroom Festival of Ronta returns in 2026 from July 15 to 26, at the sports field on Viale Fratelli Rosselli, under the guidance of FCD Borgo San Lorenzo. For two weeks, the stalls will offer Mugello potato tortelli, porcini mushroom specialties from the Mugello, seasonal tagliatelle, and grilled meats.
Food stalls open for dinner from 7:00 PM, while on Sundays, they are also open for lunch from 12:30 PM. The detailed evening program of entertainment and live music will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
