About Summer at Moscheta

Summer at Moscheta is a summer festival that, from July to October, enlivens the ancient Badia di Moscheta in Firenzuola, in the heart of the Upper Mugello. Folk and funk concerts at sunset, a Beer Festival, woodcut and linocut printing workshops, art exhibitions, sound readings, and guided hikes through the forests of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines transform a thousand-year-old complex into a natural stage for all ages. A slow journey of music, nature, art, and flavors along the trails of the Valle dell'Inferno.

A summer festival in the heart of the Apennines

Summer at Moscheta is the festival that every year, from July to October, brings the Badia di Moscheta to lifeโ€”an ancient complex located in the municipality of Firenzuola, in the Province of Florence, in the Tuscan Upper Mugello. Promoted by the Tourism Office of the Unione Montana dei Comuni del Mugello, the event offers a packed calendar of cultural events, concerts, tastings, exhibitions, workshops, and guided hikes, designed to help visitors discover one of the most evocative places in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines.

The Badia di Moscheta, nearly a thousand years of history

Founded in 1034 by San Giovanni Gualberto, the Badia di Moscheta is one of the most important settlements of the Vallombrosan order in the Apennines. The name derives from Mons Ischetus, the mountain of oaks, referring to the English oaks that populate these slopes overlooking the Veccione stream and the spectacular Valle dell'Inferno. Today, the complex houses a restaurant and an agriturismo, a riding stable, the Museum of the Historical Landscape of the Apennines, and numerous hiking trails that branch out into the Park and along the ancient ridge paths.

Music, art, and words at sunset

The program alternates events for all tastes. The Drink & Music evenings bring live music to the aperitif hour, featuring local bands such as Guanto e i Galletti Mugellesi (folk) and Polimeri Variabili (funk), while the Sound Readings weave together texts and original music. There is no shortage of art exhibitions, with displays by Raffaello Margheri and Liana Diani set up in the spaces of the Abbey, as well as workshops dedicated to artistic printing:

  • woodcut printing workshop;
  • linocut printing workshop (limited spots);
  • the Beer Festival with craft beers and food;
  • the Passi, Musica e Parole - Il Festival Lento d'Appennino (Steps, Music and Words - The Apennine Slow Festival), featuring walks, concerts, and book presentations among the Giogo-Casaglia mountain huts.

Guided hikes in the woods

The naturalistic heart of the festival lies in the guided hikes with expert guides: aperitifs in the woods, wolf-themed walks, family trekking, and, with the arrival of autumn, outings dedicated to mushroom hunting and stargazing nights. Participation requires mandatory booking and has a modest cost, designed to make the Apennine experience accessible to everyone. For horse lovers, the Abbey's riding stable offers rides immersed in nature.

A slow summer between nature and tradition

Summer at Moscheta is an invitation to slow tourism, capable of combining the spirituality of the Vallombrosan sites, the richness of the Apennine forests, and the conviviality of typical Mugello cuisine. A festival that turns an isolated and silent village into a meeting point for nature, music, and culture enthusiasts, just a few kilometers from Firenzuola and the Passo del Giogo.
