The regional historical costume pageant on the parvis of the Sanctuary of San Pancrazio in Pianezza
The Lady of the Castles of Piedmont is a historical costume event held annually in Pianezza, a town in the greater Turin area. It is the only regional competition of its kind: the contestants represent Piedmontese towns that preserve a castle, or remnants of ancient manors, as part of their artistic, cultural, and historical heritage. Each lady embodies a character linked to her town's history, turning the village into a stage for history and tradition.
The heart of the event is the parvis of the Sanctuary of San Pancrazio, illuminated for the occasion, which serves as the backdrop for the parade. The ladies, accompanied by their mayor or a cavalier in period dress, walk the stage one by one to present their castle. The jury evaluates not only beauty but also poise, elegance, and the historical accuracy of the costume. The winner is awarded a precious crown, which she keeps for the year before passing it on to the next elected Lady.
The evening opens with a historical procession through the streets of Pianezza, featuring historical groups and over 150 participants in medieval and Renaissance attire. Past editions have included delegations from numerous Piedmontese towns, such as Avigliana, Venaria Reale, Rivoli, Susa, and Collegno, showcasing the event's strong local roots.
Over the years, the event has also featured a medieval dinner organized by the Pro Loco, along with various entertainment throughout the evening.
Founded in 2021, the Lady of the Castles of Piedmont has quickly become a key event for promoting Piedmont's castles and history. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Pianezza in collaboration with the Municipality of Pianezza, with the support of the Piedmont Region. It is a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the historical identity of the region in an elegant and evocative atmosphere.
The 2026 edition of The Lady of the Castles of Piedmont is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 8:30 PM, on the evocative parvis of the Sanctuary of San Pancrazio in Pianezza. As every year, Piedmontese towns that preserve a castle within their heritage are invited to present their lady in period dress.
The evening will feature a historical procession with historical groups and participants, the parade of the ladies with the story of their respective castles, a Sand Art show, and the final election of the new Lady. The Miss Lady of the Castles of Pianezza, elected during the local selection of Miss Pianezza on June 21, will gain direct entry to the regional competition.
Pianezza is located just a few kilometers from Turin, in the western outskirts. By car, it can be reached from the Turin ring road (exit Pianezza/Collegno). By train, the reference station is Turin, from where you can continue with GTT suburban transport. The Sanctuary of San Pancrazio is located in the town center.
Admission to the event is free. The medieval dinner, when scheduled, requires a reservation through the Pro Loco.
