About Strawberries and Frolere

Fragole e Frolere is a popular gastronomic festival that brings Leinì, in the heart of the Turin province, to life every spring. Promoted by the Andrea Provana l'Ammiraglio Historical-Cultural Association, the event celebrates seasonal strawberries and traditional frolere, the classic shortcrust pastries of the Piedmont region. It is a day of celebration featuring gourmet stalls, the scent of fresh baking, and a convivial atmosphere that unites the local community through tradition, flavor, and local culture.

A spring festival in Leinì

Fragole e Frolere is a popular gastronomic event held in Leinì, a town in the northern outskirts of Turin, in Piedmont. The event brings together two staples of the local confectionery tradition: strawberries, the iconic fruit of spring in the Turin countryside, and frolere, the shortcrust pastries that evoke the region's rural baking heritage.

Who organizes the event

The festival is promoted by the Andrea Provana l'Ammiraglio Historical-Cultural Association, a group founded in Leinì in 2010 to honor the figure of Andrea Provana, a Savoyard admiral born in the castle of Leinì in 1511 and a key figure in the Battle of Lepanto. The association, which has about one hundred members and a large historical group in 16th-century costumes, complements its historical re-enactments with numerous cultural and gastronomic initiatives, including the famous 'Maratona degli Antipasti' (Appetizer Marathon).

What to expect

While maintaining an intimate, village-scale feel, Fragole e Frolere offers a culinary journey dedicated to seasonal flavors. Typical offerings at this type of festival include:

  • stalls selling fresh local strawberries;
  • tastings and sales of frolere and various shortcrust pastries;
  • specialties from the traditional Piedmontese gastronomy;
  • a convivial atmosphere brought to life by the association's volunteers.

An event rooted in the community

More than just a large commercial fair, Fragole e Frolere is a community celebration that highlights local products and the dedication of local volunteers. It is a perfect opportunity to discover Leinì and its Piedmontese identity, amidst Savoyard history, popular traditions, and simple, genuine pastry-making.

When it takes place

The event is held in the spring, during the month of May. To find out the exact date, the detailed program, and the opening hours of the current edition, we recommend checking the official channels of the Andrea Provana l'Ammiraglio Association.
