About Formangiando

Formangiando is a market fair dedicated to cheese and dairy products that transforms the central Via Vittorio Emanuele II in Ciriè, near Turin, into a large open-air tasting counter every autumn. For a full day, farmers and dairy artisans from the Lanzo Valleys present their specialties: from Toma di Lanzo to the sought-after Blu di Lanzo, and from Toma del lait brusc to goat tomette. With cheese-making demonstrations, a dining area serving riso alla toma, and numerous stalls, it is the ideal event to discover the dairy excellence of Piedmont.

A day dedicated to cheese in the center of Ciriè

Every autumn, the town of Ciriè, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, dedicates an entire day to cheese with Formangiando, the market fair that brings the central Via Vittorio Emanuele II to life. For the occasion, the street is closed to traffic and filled with stalls from farmers and artisans specializing in dairy products, creating a festive atmosphere that attracts curious visitors and enthusiasts from across the Ciriacese area and the Lanzo Valleys.

The star cheeses

The true heart of the event is the traditional cheese of this part of Piedmont, a land of mountain pastures and alpine dairies that boasts an ancient dairy tradition. The stalls feature some of the most sought-after local delicacies:

  • Toma di Lanzo, the iconic cheese of the valleys;
  • Blu di Lanzo, the most precious and sought-after blue cheese in the region;
  • Toma del lait brusc, produced using the traditional sour milk technique;
  • Goat tomette and other local alpine specialties.

Demonstrations and dairy culture

Formangiando is not just about sales; it is also an opportunity to learn about the work of cheesemakers up close. Throughout the day, cheese-making demonstrations are held, where local farms show live how cheese is made starting from raw milk—a highlight highly appreciated by families and children.

The dining area and riso alla toma

In the space in front of the Church of San Giuseppe, a dining area managed by Coldiretti is set up with tables and seating. The signature dish of the day is riso alla toma, a simple and genuine recipe that celebrates the cheese at the heart of the festival.

A local event

Organized by the City of Ciriè in collaboration with the Provincial Federation of Coldiretti (Ciriè Section), Formangiando has become a staple of the Ciriè autumn. Included in the calendar of food and wine events of the Province of Turin, it is a delicious stop for anyone wanting to discover the authentic flavors of the Lanzo Valleys and rural Piedmont.
