The festival of street food and Mediterranean markets in the heart of Trapani
Stragusto – International Street Food Festival is one of the most renowned culinary events in Western Sicily. Every summer, the festival brings the best of Mediterranean street food to the historic center of Trapani. The event is set in the evocative Piazza Mercato del Pesce, the city's ancient fish market, which comes alive for several nights with the authentic sounds, aromas, and colors of a traditional market.
At the heart of Stragusto are the artisan producers—true masters of taste—who prepare their specialties live in front of the audience. Sicilian street food is the undisputed star: from Trapani-style couscous and takeaway busiate to fresh tuna sandwiches and Palermo specialties, not to mention Nebrodi porchetta and local Slow Food presidia products. Alongside these local delicacies, the festival features traditions from other Italian regions and international cuisines from across the Mediterranean, creating a continuous dialogue between cultures and recipes.
One of the most popular attractions is the wine tasting area, set up on the Mura di Tramontana walls overlooking the sea. Here, at sunset, local wineries offer a selection of their wines, guided by expert sommeliers—an experience that pairs the pleasure of a glass of wine with the unique panorama of the Trapani coast.
Stragusto is more than just gastronomy; it is a narrative of popular culinary tradition and the Mediterranean identity of Trapani. The event is organized by Trapani Welcome in collaboration with Pro Loco Trapani Centro and the Municipality of Trapani, with an increasing focus on sustainability and the quality of raw ingredients. Strolling through the stalls at dusk, tasting one dish after another, and letting yourself be guided by the aromas is the best way to experience the authentic gastronomic soul of Sicily.
The eighteenth edition of Stragusto is scheduled in Trapani from July 22 to 26, 2026, in the scenic Piazza Mercato del Pesce. Five evenings of Sicilian, Italian, and Mediterranean street food, with traditional artisan producers preparing their specialties live. The wine tasting area on the Mura di Tramontana is also confirmed for 2026, featuring a selection of local wineries at sunset.
The organizers will announce the full program, including the list of exhibitors and scheduled events, in the weeks preceding the festival.
Trapani is accessible by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway. Trapani-Birgi Airport (Vincenzo Florio) is just a few kilometers from the center, and the city is well-connected by train and bus to major Sicilian destinations.
The festival takes place in the Piazza Mercato del Pesce, in the historic center of Trapani, easily reachable on foot from the port and the main streets.
The event takes place in the evening; it is recommended to arrive at sunset to enjoy the atmosphere and visit the wine area on the Mura di Tramontana. We suggest parking in the city center car parks and reaching the square on foot.
