Ericestate, often referred to as Estate Ericina, is the summer festival organized annually by the Municipality of Erice, in the heart of the Trapani province, in Sicily. From June to September, the medieval village of Erice, perched nearly 750 meters high on Mount San Giuliano, becomes a vast open-air cultural hub: a structured calendar of artistic, musical, cinematic, and recreational initiatives that enliven the historic center throughout the summer season.
The strength of Ericestate lies in the variety of its offerings. Throughout the summer, the schedule alternates between classical and contemporary music concerts, theatrical performances, film screenings, book presentations, conferences, scientific meetings, and art exhibitions. The program is the result of the coordinated work of the Municipality alongside numerous local associations and major cultural institutions such as the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, which has made Erice an international reference point for research for decades.
Events take place in the most evocative spots of the village. Piazzetta San Giuliano hosts open-air cinema and evening concerts; the Balio Gardens, overlooking the Gulf of Trapani and the Egadi Islands, welcome concerts and installations; the Wigner-San Francesco Institute serves as a backdrop for operas, recitals, and exhibitions. These are joined by the courtyards, churches, and exhibition halls scattered along the narrow cobblestone alleys of the historic center, making Erice one of the most fascinating destinations in Western Sicily.
Within Ericestate, there are several highly anticipated recurring events: the open-air cinema series in Piazzetta San Giuliano, narrative and musical journeys through the village courtyards, evenings dedicated to the archaeology and history of the area, and moments linked to Sicilian food and wine traditions. The program often intertwines with other local events, such as the historic Festa Federicina, helping to make the Erice summer a period of intense cultural life.
Participating in Ericestate means discovering one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: medieval alleys, cyclopean walls, the Castle of Venus, and breathtaking views of the Trapani coast. The festival combines the quality of its cultural offerings with the unique charm of the location, offering residents and tourists a summer full of emotions in the Municipality of Erice, in the province of Trapani.
The 2026 edition of Ericestate has not yet been officially presented. The dates and detailed program for the summer of 2026 in the village of Erice, in the province of Trapani, will be announced by the Municipality of Erice in the weeks leading up to the start of the festival. As every year, a widespread program is expected between June and September, featuring concerts, open-air cinema, theater, exhibitions, and cultural meetings in the historic sites of the center. Information will be updated as soon as it is published by the organizers.
Erice can be reached from Trapani by car or via the cable car (Funierice) that connects the lower city to the village. The reference airport is Trapani-Birgi, while Palermo is approximately 100 km away.
Many Ericestate events have free admission; some concerts and performances may require a ticket. It is recommended to check the program on the Municipality of Erice website and official social media channels.
Evenings at high altitude can be cool even in summer: bring a light jacket. Book your accommodation in Erice or Trapani well in advance, especially in August.
