About Sapori di Confine

Sapori di Confine is a food and wine trail that brings the historic center of Camerata Nuova to life. Located in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, this mountain village overlooks the Monti Simbruini Regional Natural Park. Launched in 2025 by the local Pro Loco, the event celebrates traditional rural cuisine, wine tastings curated by FISAR, and live music, weaving together the traditions of border communities between Lazio and Abruzzo.

A culinary journey on the borders of Lazio

Sapori di Confine is a food and wine festival that transforms the historic center of Camerata Nuova into a trail of authentic flavors. Nestled among the forests of the Monti Simbruini Regional Natural Park, the village sits at the far eastern edge of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio—just over an hour from Rome and a stone's throw from Abruzzo. This border location defines the event's spirit: a meeting of communities, cuisines, and traditions that share the same high plateau.

Mountain cuisine

The heart of the festival is the food and wine trail winding through the village alleys, where stalls offer traditional Simbruini rural dishes. Highlights from previous editions include:

  • gnocchetti with chickpeas, a simple and hearty traditional first course;
  • pasta with sausage, tomato, and saffron;
  • local cheeses and cured meats, served with bruschetta;
  • arrosticini and lamb cooked in the local style;
  • tripe in tomato sauce;
  • traditional desserts;
  • french fries for the little ones.

The dishes are paired with wine tastings curated by the sommeliers of FISAR (Italian Federation of Sommeliers, Hoteliers and Restaurateurs), who offer quality pairings to complement the menu.

Music and border communities

Beyond the food, Sapori di Confine is a vibrant street festival. Live music accompanies visitors along the trail, with a street band bringing rhythm and joy to the alleys. The initiative was born as a collaborative effort between local Pro Loco associations: alongside the Pro Loco of Camerata Nuova, the first edition featured participants from Pereto, Civita, and Rocca di Botte—towns in the nearby Marsica region of Abruzzo—highlighting the value of a territory that transcends administrative borders.

The village and its surroundings

Camerata Nuova is a small mountain town that preserves the intimate atmosphere of Apennine villages. Its territory includes the famous Prati e Fondi, vast karst plateaus beloved by hikers and nature enthusiasts, and is part of one of the most evocative parks in Lazio. Attending Sapori di Confine means discovering not only great food but also an authentic corner of the Apennines just a short distance from Rome.

Practical information

The event takes place during the warmer months, typically in May, with stalls opening in the early afternoon. To stay updated on dates, the program, and how to participate, follow the official channels of the Pro Loco of Camerata Nuova.
