A food and wine journey through the medieval village of Pereto
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Calici sotto le Stelle is the food and wine event that transforms the medieval village of Pereto, in the province of L'Aquila, into a path of flavors and conviviality. Nestled at the foot of the Carseolani mountains, overlooking the Piana del Cavaliere and known as the "Gateway to Abruzzo," Pereto offers an exceptional setting: cobblestone streets, stone portals, and the imposing castle that dominates the historic center. In this setting, within the ancient walls of the town, a tasting journey comes to life, designed to rediscover the territory, one glass at a time.
The evening unfolds as a widespread itinerary: the starting point is Piazza Maccafani, from which a sensory path through history, art, and flavors winds its way up the village streets to Largo Castello. Along the way, you will find tasting stations where you can sample select Abruzzo wines and traditional local dishes, accompanied by live music and entertainment. It is a way to experience the historic center in a new light, immersed in the unique atmosphere of the village illuminated at night.
The heart of the experience is the tasting kit, consisting of a wine glass and a glass holder pouch, which becomes the symbol of the evening and the tool to best enjoy the various stops. The ticket office is set up at Porta Matticca, where you can purchase the kit before starting the route. The format is typical of food and wine events in historic villages: you walk freely, stop as you please, and savor wines and local products in an informal and festive atmosphere.
The initiative combines culture, gastronomy, and social life, highlighting the historical and artistic heritage of Pereto and the flavors of Abruzzo. The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Pereto, is organized in collaboration with FISAR (Italian Sommelier Federation), which oversees the wine tasting aspect. Born as a small village festival, Calici sotto le Stelle has quickly established itself as one of the key events that animate the village, telling its story through local wine tourism and the rediscovery of regional products.
Participating in Calici sotto le Stelle is also an opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating villages in the Marsica region, a member of the "Borghi Autentici d'Italia" (Authentic Villages of Italy) club. The medieval castle, dating back to the 12th-13th century and recently restored, the well-preserved historic center, and the strategic location on the border between Abruzzo and Lazio make Pereto an ideal destination for a weekend of nature, history, and fine dining.
The 2026 edition of Calici sotto le Stelle in Pereto does not yet have official dates. Based on previous editions, the event takes place in autumn, tentatively in the month of October, with a food and wine trail through the village streets. Information on dates, times, and the program will be updated as soon as they are released by the organizers.
Pereto (AQ) is easily reached by car from the A24/A25 Rome-L'Aquila-Pescara motorway, taking the Carsoli-Oricola exit, just a few kilometers from the village. By train, the reference station is Carsoli, on the Rome-Pescara line.
Parking areas are available at Largo Castello, along Via della Montagna, and in the "Quercione" area, with assistance provided by the Civil Protection.
The route follows uphill cobblestone streets: comfortable footwear is recommended. The tasting kit (glass + glass holder pouch) can be purchased at the ticket office at Porta Matticca.
