Wine, local delicacies, and culture in the medieval village of Roviano

Degustazioni a Corte is the food and wine event that brings the historic center of Roviano to life every September. This small village in the upper Aniene Valley, located in the province of Rome within the Lazio region, offers a unique experience. For one evening, the medieval alleys, ancient cellars, and village palaces turn into a sprawling tasting trail, where wine and local products become the common thread of a festival that is part food fair, part cultural event, and a perfect opportunity to discover the area.
The heart of the event is the tasting trail that winds through the village: tasting stations distributed throughout the town center offer dozens of labels, from native Lazio varieties like Cesanese and Passerina to biodynamic productions and international selections from various countries. Alongside the glasses, numerous food stalls present Italian culinary specialties: cured meats and cheeses, truffle dishes, fried treats, desserts, and artisanal gelato, with options also available for those seeking gluten-free alternatives. The village's signature products are also featured, such as the famous cuzzi, a local Roviano specialty, perfectly paired with Cesanese wine.
Degustazioni a Corte is about more than just food and wine. Throughout the evening, the program features book presentations, masterclasses led by expert sommeliers focusing on Cesanese and wine culture, and live music performances with folk, rock, and blues bands accompanying the public along the route. The village thus becomes a widespread stage where tasting and entertainment intertwine until late at night.
The event is set against the backdrop of one of the most picturesque villages in the Aniene Valley. During the festival, it is possible to discover Castello Brancaccio, which houses the Museum of Peasant Civilization of the Aniene Valleyโthe first ethno-anthropological museum in Lazioโwith its frescoed halls and the famous Judith and Holofernes cycle. Free guided tours of the museum and the historic center allow visitors to combine the pleasures of the table with the rediscovery of the area's history and rural traditions.
With its various editions, Degustazioni a Corte has established itself as one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the autumn in the province of Rome, successfully promoting small producers, local associations, and the identity of a territory often off the beaten path. It is an evening designed for those who love fine wine, quality cuisine, and the authentic atmosphere of Lazio's villages.
The official date for the 2026 edition of Degustazioni a Corte in Roviano has not yet been announced.
