About Cantine in Festa

Every August, the village of Anticoli Corrado, nestled in the hills of the Aniene Valley, comes alive with Cantine in Festa, also known as Fest'Anticoli. Ancient cellars carved directly into the rock open to visitors for tastings of local wines and traditional specialties, with each cellar offering a unique culinary experience. Live music and roving performances echo through the historic alleys, while toasts under the August stars create a warm, convivial village atmosphere.

A village opening its doors to wine and music

Cantine in Festa, also known by its historic name Fest'Anticoli, is the premier summer food and wine festival in Anticoli Corrado, a charming village in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, located in the heart of the Aniene Valley, in Lazio. For an entire weekend in August, the village transforms into a journey of taste and conviviality: the ancient rock-hewn cellars, which remain closed for the rest of the year, reopen their doors to visitors.

The cellars take center stage

The heart of the event lies in the historic center's old cellars, carved into the stone beneath the village houses. Each one offers a different tasting, allowing you to discover local wines and traditional dishes as you wander from alley to alley. It is an authentic way to experience the village from within, entering spaces that are usually private and rediscovering an ancient peasant culture rooted in wine, hospitality, and genuine flavors.

Music, shows, and atmosphere

The atmosphere is made even more vibrant by live music: concerts and roving performances accompany the toasts along the narrow streets of the center. The village's various squaresโ€”from Piazza Santa Vittoria to Piazza Giovanni XXIII and the small square known as Piazza del "Diavolo"โ€”host groups and artists, while folk songs and wandering musicians bring the corners of the village to life until late. The mild climate of the August nights makes strolling between the cellars a relaxed and pleasant experience.

Anticoli Corrado, the village of painters

Perched on a rocky spur above the Aniene river valley, Anticoli Corrado is famous as the "village of painters and models." Between the 19th and 20th centuries, its streets and inhabitants inspired numerous artists, and the village still preserves a modern art museum and a fascinating urban layout today. Cantine in Festa fits perfectly into this setting, blending the country's architectural and landscape heritage with the local food and wine tradition.

An event for everyone

Organized by the Pro Loco of Anticoli Corrado, the event is designed for families, curious travelers, and food and wine enthusiasts. Entry to the village and the festival streets is free; tastings in individual cellars are purchased as you go. It is an ideal opportunity to combine a day trip from Rome with an evening of wine, good food, and music, discovering one of the most evocative villages in the Aniene Valley.
