The food and wine stroll through the village of Tufo di Carsoli
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Tufo sotto le Stelle is the most anticipated summer event in Tufo, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Carsoli, in the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the Piana del Cavaliere, on the border between Abruzzo and Lazio. For one August evening, the alleys, stairways, and squares of the historic center transform into a culinary trail: the village's cellars and homes open their doors to offer visitors traditional dishes, in a food and wine stroll that begins at dusk.
The heart of the event is the gastronomic stroll among the stations set up along the route. At the various stops, you can savor the specialties of Abruzzese and Marsican cuisine: arrosticini, pizza rentorta, gnocchetti with chickpeas, pallotte cacio e ova, beans with pork rinds, truffle ravioli, mezze maniche all'amatriciana, meatball sandwiches, and bruschetta with porcini mushrooms, all accompanied by beer, wine, and traditional desserts. A journey of taste that invites you to discover the village step by step, one bite at a time.
The evening is not just about good food. Along the route, there is a market for crafts and local products, while live music enlivens the squares and alleys with roaming bands accompanying the visitors. There is no shortage of references to the town's popular traditions, with moments of celebration and dancing that close the evening in joy, following a ritual that is repeated year after year.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Tufo di Carsoli APS, with the patronage of the Municipality of Carsoli, and is the result of the work of local volunteers who renew the appointment every summer. Over the years, "Tufo sotto le Stelle" has become an opportunity to bring the community together and introduce an authentic corner of mountainous Abruzzo to an ever-wider audience.
Tufo is a hillside hamlet of the Municipality of Carsoli, in Abruzzo, nestled on the slopes overlooking the Piana del Cavaliere. Its historic center, with its stone houses and narrow alleys, offers the ideal setting for a festival that celebrates the landscape and the roots of the territory. Its location, just a few kilometers from the Lazio border and well-connected to the A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway, makes the village easily accessible for those who want to experience an evening of taste and tradition away from the city.
The date for the 2026 edition of Tufo sotto le Stelle has not yet been announced by the organizers. The food and wine stroll in the village of Tufo, a hamlet of the Municipality of Carsoli (AQ), is usually held in August: as soon as the Pro Loco of Tufo di Carsoli APS publishes the official calendar, this page will be updated with dates, the program, and the specialties of the new edition.
Tufo di Carsoli can be reached by car from the A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway, taking the Carsoli-Oricola exit and then continuing towards the hamlet of Tufo. Carsoli is also served by the Rome-Pescara railway line (Carsoli station).
Admission to the event is free. Dishes and drinks can be purchased at the individual stations along the food and wine route.
We recommend comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking on the village's stone alleys. For updated information on dates and the program, you can contact the Pro Loco of Tufo di Carsoli APS.
