About Truffle Festival

Every October, the Canterano Truffle Festival celebrates the prized black truffle of the Aniene Valley, nestled in the heart of the Simbruini Mountains. In this small village, officially designated a 'City of Truffles,' food stalls in Piazza Roma serve up tagliolini, bruschetta, eggs, and cheeses enhanced with shavings of local truffle, all paired with regional wines and specialties. Featuring a spritz bar, gourmet snacks, music, and art installations, the event organized by the La Murritana association blends fine food, culture, and discovery of the Aniene Valley.

The Canterano Truffle Festival

Every autumn, the small Municipality of Canteranoโ€”a village of fewer than four hundred inhabitants perched in the Aniene Valley, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio)โ€”transforms into the capital of a product as rare as it is precious: the truffle. The Canterano Truffle Festival is the village's tribute to this woodland treasure, a highly anticipated event that draws visitors, foodies, and curious travelers from across the Simbruini Mountains region and Rome to its historic center.

The Truffle of the Aniene Valley

The undisputed star is the strictly local truffle, foraged in the woods surrounding the village. Due to the truffle-rich nature of its territory, Canterano has earned the title of City of Truffles, a recognition certifying the tradition and quality of its harvest. During the festival, the prized tuber is served fresh and in shavings to best showcase its intense and unmistakable aroma.

Stalls and Gastronomy

In the heart of the historic center, with Piazza Roma as the main hub, food stalls set up by local volunteers come to life. The truffle-themed menu offers specialties ranging from tagliolini to bruschetta, eggs, cheeses, and meats, all enhanced by shavings of Canterano truffle. The experience is completed by a spritz bar, a gourmet snack corner, and a selection of wines and local products that tell the story of the genuine flavors of the Lazio countryside.

Beyond Food: Culture and Territory

The event is more than just a culinary experience. Throughout the village streets, visitors will find artistic and cultural installations, live music, and activities designed to showcase the town and its surrounding landscape. Strolling through the alleys of Canterano during the festival means immersing yourself in the authentic atmosphere of a small Apennine village, where hospitality and conviviality are still cherished values.

A Festival with a Heart

Behind the organization of the festival is the La Murritana cultural association, a non-profit organization founded in 2016 and composed of local volunteers. A portion of the event's proceeds is donated to charity and allocated to the restoration of Canterano's historical heritage, ensuring the festival serves as a concrete tool for supporting the community and preserving the village.

Truffle Festival โ€” edition 2026

Following the success of previous years, the Canterano Truffle Festival is expected to return in autumn 2026, traditionally held in October. The Aniene Valley village, officially a 'City of Truffles,' is preparing to celebrate its local black truffle once again with food stalls, a spritz bar, and cultural events in Piazza Roma.

The 2026 edition of the Canterano Truffle Festival is expected, as usual, in the month of October, in the historic center of the village with its hub in Piazza Roma. At the moment, official dates and the detailed program have not yet been published by the organizers: we recommend checking the official website tartufocanterano.it and the social media channels of the La Murritana association for updates. Following the trend of past editions, the event is expected to feature the menu dedicated to the black truffle of the Aniene Valley, the spritz bar, the gourmet snack corner, and the art installations that bring the village streets to life.

Programme Truffle Festival 2026

The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published by the organizers.
