The food and wine walking tour through the hills and historic center of Santa Vittoria d'Alba
Saliscendi is one of the most beloved food and wine walking tours in the Roero region, held in Santa Vittoria d'Alba, a charming little town in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. The concept is simple and irresistible: a 4-kilometer loop trail between the historic center and the hills, featuring five gourmet stops along the way. At each stop, you can sample a local dish paired with a glass of wine, turning the walk into a journey through the flavors of the territory.
The trail starts from Piazza Bertero in the town center and winds partly on asphalt and partly on dirt paths, with some slopes and staircases that justify the event's name, which translates to 'ups and downs' through the hills. The panorama embraces the Roero vineyards and the Tanaro valley, offering views that are worth the trip alone. The route is suitable for all ages, though strollers are not recommended; four-legged friends are welcome.
The heart of Saliscendi lies in its five gourmet stops, designed to showcase Piedmontese culinary tradition step by step. From appetizers and handmade pasta to rustic main courses and traditional desserts, each stop is accompanied by a local wine. The Pro Loco always provides vegetarian and gluten-free alternatives, ensuring everyone can join in the feast.
The walk is not just about good food: it is, above all, a moment of community. At the end of the route, the day continues in the square with music, dancing, and a DJ set that keeps participants entertained until the afternoon. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Roero by combining light exercise, gastronomy, and social fun.
Organized by the Pro Loco Tourist Association of Santa Vittoria d'Alba, the event boasts over twenty-five years of history and has become a staple of the Roero spring calendar. Participating in Saliscendi means supporting the work of volunteers and experiencing the hospitality of a village that has made fine dining and welcoming guests its hallmark.
