The street food and Aeolian flavors festival in Malfa
Salina Street Food is the new food and wine festival in the town of Malfa, one of the main hubs on the island of Salina, in the Aeolian Islands archipelago (Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily). For one evening, Via Roma is closed to traffic and transformed into a long gastronomic trail, while Piazza dell'Immacolata hosts winery stands and the main stage.
The heart of the event lies in the meeting of local excellence: wineries, restaurants, hospitality businesses, and shops offer traditional Aeolian recipes, regional dishes, and farm-to-table products. A special focus is placed on wines from Salina's cellars, starting with the famous Malvasia delle Lipari. The festival also highlights dishes from foreign communities integrated into the island's social fabric, celebrating conviviality and local identity as its core values.
Along the route, various bands entertain the crowd until late at night: from the SMS Live Band to Rossano Giorgi and the SoundsGood, and Nicola Merlo, with a grand finale by the Cantori Popolari delle Isole Eolie, who bring local folk songs and dances to the square. It is a blend of music, flavors, and traditions that captures the authentic spirit of the archipelago.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Malfa APS - Isula di Salina in collaboration with Brand Eolie Srls, a cultural and gastronomic promotion agency, with the support of the Municipality of Malfa and the patronage of the regional Departments of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, and Agriculture, the Metropolitan City of Messina, the Chamber of Commerce, the Malvasia delle Lipari Consortium, and Slow Food. More than just a gastronomic event, Salina Street Food was created as a tool to promote experiential tourism, capable of enhancing quality, local identity, and social cohesion on the island of Salina.
The first edition of Salina Street Food took place on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Malfa, on the island of Salina, as the opening night of the Aeolian summer season. Via Roma, closed to vehicular traffic, was transformed into a food and wine trail, with stands and a stage in Piazza dell'Immacolata.
9 wineries and 18 businesses, including restaurants, hospitality venues, and shops, participated, offering traditional Aeolian recipes, regional dishes, local wines, and farm-to-table products. The event began around 6:00 PM with four Aeolian bands stationed along the route and concluded at 10:00 PM with a performance by the Cantori Popolari delle Isole Eolie.
The event attracted over 2,000 people, including residents, islanders, and tourists. Mayor Giuseppe Siracusano defined it as "the victory of the Salina model," highlighting the synergy between the territory's economic and social activities.
Malfa is located on the island of Salina, in the Aeolian Islands archipelago. It can be reached by sea via hydrofoils and ferries (Liberty Lines and other operators) from the ports of Milazzo, Messina, Palermo, and the other Aeolian Islands. From the port, local bus connections are available to Malfa.
The event takes place in June, as a single-evening affair, starting in the late afternoon and continuing until late at night. For the 2026 edition, additional runs of the island transport service (CITIS) were scheduled for the afternoon and late evening.
Access to the route is free; food and wine tastings are purchased directly at the individual winery and restaurant stands.
The route winds along Via Roma, which is closed to traffic, with stands and the main stage located in Piazza dell'Immacolata.
