Scents, flavors, and traditions in the heart of the Nebrodi mountains in Sinagra
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, the village of Sinagra, nestled in the heart of the Nebrodi Mountains in the province of Messina, dedicates two days in August to the Citrus Festival, one of the most beloved food and wine festivals in the region. Known as the "Pearl of the Nebrodi," Sinagra has always based its economy on agriculture: olive oil, hazelnuts, cereals, and, above all, citrus fruits. The festival was created to promote these products and to enhance the tourist season with an event that weaves together flavors, culture, and hospitality.
The heart of the event is the gastronomic trail set up through the alleys of the historic center, where local producers display lemons, oranges, mandarins, and citrons. Visitors can sample citrus-based dishes in all their forms: from appetizers to desserts, including granitas, ice creams, and fresh juices. Alongside the food stalls, there are craft booths and local products that tell the story of the trades and traditions of the Nebrodi community.
The Citrus Festival is not just about tastings. The program usually includes concerts and musical entertainment in the square, folk dances, educational workshops dedicated to the use of citrus in traditional pastry making, and guided walks through the citrus groves surrounding the village. It is an opportunity to discover the deep bond between the village and its land, experiencing Sinagra in the evening hours when the streets fill with scents and people.
The festival is also an invitation to explore the municipality's heritage: the medieval castle with its clock tower, the Grotta del Beato Diego, the Church of the Holy Crucifix, and the Salleo baronial palace. Part of the Sinagra summer calendar and managed by the Pro Loco of Sinagra, the Citrus Festival is a popular and family-friendly event, designed for residents and visitors who want to get to know the inland Sicily of small villages, far from the beaten paths of the coast.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers: the event traditionally takes place in the first days of August.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet published the dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Citrus Festival in Sinagra.
