About Tupposa Festival

Tupposa – Sicilian Brioche Festival is a culinary event in Gliaca di Piraino, on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Province of Messina, celebrating the famous brioche col tuppo, the symbol of the Sicilian breakfast. In the heart of the village, between Piazza Quasimodo and the seafront, local bakeries and pastry shops offer the tupposa in sweet versions, paired with granitas, ice creams, and hazelnut or pistachio creams, as well as savory versions featuring cured meats and typical Nebrodi products. A journey through scents, colors, and flavors, enlivened by live music, showcasing the local confectionery tradition.

The brioche col tuppo festival in Gliaca di Piraino

Tupposa – Sicilian Brioche Festival is a food and wine event dedicated to one of the island's most beloved baked goods: the brioche col tuppo, easily recognizable by the characteristic bun (the tuppo) on top. The festival takes place in Gliaca di Piraino, a seaside hamlet of the Municipality of Piraino, in the Province of Messina, along the Tyrrhenian coast of the Nebrodi, animating Piazza Salvatore Quasimodo and the nearby seafront.

Sweet and savory: all the variations of the tupposa

The festival showcases the many sides of the tupposa. In the sweet version, the brioche is filled or accompanied by granitas, artisanal ice creams, and hazelnut or pistachio creams, following the best Sicilian tradition. In the savory version, it becomes a treasure chest for cured meats and local specialties, with offerings ranging from Nebrodi products to local bakery creations. There are also gluten-free versions, designed to welcome all visitors.

A community event

The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Piraino and is part of the rich summer calendar of the Municipality of Piraino, which every July combines culture, entertainment, religious tradition, gastronomy, and fun. The Tupposa evening is accompanied by live music and entertainment for all ages, in a festive atmosphere that celebrates the confectionery and maritime identity of the Messina coast.

Gliaca di Piraino and the Tyrrhenian Sicily

Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Gliaca is the coastal hamlet of Piraino, a hilltop village overlooking the Nebrodi coastline. Attending the Tupposa means discovering an authentic corner of Sicily, with its beaches, culinary traditions, and village hospitality, in one of the most delicious stops of the Nebrodi summer. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: it is recommended to check the official channels of the Pro Loco of Piraino as summer approaches.
